Could anyone please send some advice on how to help quench my constant thirst, I drink water but of course little sips at a time.  Last night I took a mouth full and swallowed it slowly and the pain in my belly was unreal.  Even after a sip of water I can feel it in my stomach but I am stll so thirsty.

how far out from surgery are you?  it does get better, you will be able to handle more at a time as time passes. hang in there!!

I am 5 days since surgery, I have my water bottle with me everywhere.  I sip approximately a 1/2 tsp each time.  Thanks for the reassurance that it will get better. I am not diabetic but since surgery I seem to be thirsty all the time.

What about SF popsicles?  They might help.  How about using a sports cup that will help control the amt of water you can sip?  But keep on drinking no matter what, that is most important!  By the way, are you diabetic?  Could the extreme thirst be related to that?  I don't remember having such unquenchable thirst.

WARNING, failure to drink enough water will likely end cause readmission to the hospital due to dehdration.  My wife ended up there about 3 weeks post op in 2008.  I found a solution that seems to work for her. We got a kiddie snow cone machine--first one from Walmart, but then next one from Amazon for around $31 withe shipping.  Take fridge ice cubes, discharge ice shavings into bowl or soup mug. Get some SF Torani syrups--I get mine from Smart and Final stores in southern CA.  Likely the berry SF flavors will likely taste test in the snow cone.  This way you can eat your water, making a wide variety of flavors. as you have been told above, fluids are very important.  The drinking more volume will come eventually.  keep up on it.

It will get easier. I'm up to 3 to 4 normal gulps at a time but if I overdo it, it hurts too.
I could not swallow large pills at first and now I'm thinking about trying them because bariatric meds cost more. I'm hoping regular pharmacy vitamins are cheaper.

Any suggestions?
