OT - question about warts

I have what I think is a wart on the inside of my bottom lip.  It doesn't really bother me, I mean it doesn't hurt or anything, but I am a bit leary of any growth or bump that doesn't belong somewhere.

From some quick googling, I see that warts in the mouth are often caused by the HPV virus, which is the same thing that causes genital warts, and yes, you would get them in yoru mouth in the way you would imagine you would get them there.  Since my partner does not have genital warts (I mean, he has no symptoms, can you have the virus with no symptoms?  and still transmit it?), I'm thinking it must be some other type of wart.

Anyway, I guess I should have a doctor look at it, right?  Should I see my PCP?  Or should I see a dermatologist?  I had a wart on my hand several years ago and my doctor told me to just buy that over the counter thing that looks like a bandaid that you stick on the wart and in a few days, the wart fell off.  But I can't really use that in my mouth.

HPV is not just a woman thing.  Men can get it too.  It's typically transmitted by sexual contact.

They might not do anything and since it doesn't really bother me at all, I don't particularly care if they remove it or not.  I just want to make sure it's just a wart and not some sort of tumor or something.  I used to work for a hospice and saw people that had ignored lumps and other growths until it was too late.  I get those things checked.

HPV can cause Genital and oral warts. Men can remain asymptomatic with infection. Women reap the consequences. When was you last pap smear? I would get it checked out?

Um... a couple years ago.  But I have had no new partners since then, and neither has my partner, so neither of us could have contracted anything since then that we didn't already have before then.  Did that sentence make sense?

I've been meaning to schedule an appt for a pap and stuff anyway, so I guess now I  have another reason to do so.

A person can be a carrier with no signs or symptoms. So it is possible to get from a partner with no signs I believe.

The body will build and immunity to it at which time it is no longer contagious. If it's in question I would say get it checked to make sure so as not to spread it. (although not sure how you would).

The only person I could spread it to would be my partner, and if I have it, I must have gotten it from him in the first place, so he would already have it.  But neither of us have had any other partners in a long time so if he has it, he's had it for a long time.

When we got together, we'd both had negative HIV tests and both believed we were free from any other STD, but perhaps we were mistaken about that.

OK.  So there is no test and they might have no symptoms, so even if you are obsessively careful about safe sex like I always was, you can still end up with it.  Unless you want to use condoms forever and ever.  Well, that just sucks.
