Is my surgery working right?
But then I see people that are concerned their surgery is not working because their surgeon said to only eat 1/4 cup of food but they can eat a whole cup of food, or they thought they would dump if they ate a bite of cake but they ate three bites of cake and didn't dump. Those things don't mean your surgery is not working, but I can understand why people might worry about that, especially if they didn't get good pre op education from their surgeons.
Here is what I want to say, though. If it's important to you that your surgery works the way it is supposed to, the best way to make sure of that is to follow your post op plan. If you eat more food than what your surgeon recommends, you might tolerate it fine or you might get sick. If you eat more sugar than your surgeon recommends, you might tolerate it fine or you might dump. But if you stick to your meal plan, you will most likely tolerate it fine and you will have the best chance of losing the weight you want to lose.
It's kind of like if you buy a new appliance and it comes with directions. You can read the directions and follow them and then your appliance will probably work like it's supposed to. If you disregard the directions and just try lots of different things, the appliance might still work or you might damage it or you might not get the results you want. Your RNY is a tool and your surgeon's plan is the directions for how to use your tool. If you follow the directions, your tool will probably work just fine.

Of course people can choose to do as they wish, but not all of us went into it thinking it was a magic surgery or bandaid.

it's like the asmbs wrote the bible on the surgery, the basics. the surgeons/nuts/etc are like the different denominations, all telling different variations on the same story, with some changes in the interpretation. then we are the congregation, some blindly following, some rebelling, and some questioning and seeking the best answers.
lol and this is coming from a non-religious person, somehow this kind of just popped into my head.
