Blah, I may need to cut out the popcorn

I eat popcorn fairly often when I want a crunchy salty kind of snack.  Most of the time I tolerate it well, but occasionally it seems to trigger reactive hypoglycemia.  Once again tonight, my sugar dropped to 47 and I felt like crap.  I'm thinking I  may need to cut out the popcorn.  Or at least eat less of it, and eat some cheese or something along with it.  Blah.

I love it, too. I've been okay with it so far and luckily no issues with my blood sugar!

Whenever you're on a regular diet - six weeks out for me.  But it was many months before I actually had any, I didn't really have room for anything besides protein for a long time.  I don't think switching brands would help, it's eating too many carbs with no protein, and that would be the case with any brand of popcorn.

How do you know when you are having the reactive hypoglycemic episode?  What do you feel like?  I am 14 months post op and have started having these strange feelings of shakiness and weakness about an hour after eating, especially when I eat too many carbs.   I have been wondering if I am starting to develop RH.

I know for sure when I check my blood sugar.  The lowest it has ever been was 37.  But I can tell by how I feel - when I think it's low and I check it, it always is.  I can't tell how low by how I feel, but I can tell it's low.  Like under 70, for sure.

I feel very shaky and lightheaded and a little nauseous and my hands shake pretty bad.  And, I don't know how to explain it really, but something just feels off.  I can't think of anything else that feels like it to compare it to.  And it goes away quickly if I eat something.

I also get a cold sweat, shaking hands, confusion, weird sense of disaster...

I usually figure it out just before it gets really bad.

Once I was chatting on the phone and forget to eat or drink anything, and all of a sudden I interrupted the person I was speaking with and told her I had to go. I tested, and I was at 32. At those times I start to stuff my face with whatever is handy to try to get it to balance out again.

Popcorn is a trigger food for me so I seldom ever eat it anymore. I also have the issue with it dropping my sugar levels very low. So now when I do eat it I either eat it with cheese or nutritional yeast. No idea why it helps but it does help me. Which is good cause it's my second favorite way to eat popcorn. My all time favorite way is drenched in butter, but that much fat causes me in dump from the fat

I was never a big popcorn eater until post-op. I guess I feel that if I buy a bag of potato chips, that I'll be going back to old habits. So earlier this week I bought a 3 pack of popcorn instead. Seems that is the next best thing to potato chips, but I still have to be sure that i dont eat an entire bag...and that's challenging  for me.  I like the Pop Secret Butter....sigh.
