I need to rethink my vitamin regimen

Lately I am noticing that I am having trouble getting all my vitamins in.  I think the problem is that at this point my vitamin schedule includes too many pills to swallow, many of which are BIG horse pills.  It's to the point that it makes me feel slightly nauseous to take them all and there have been a few times I have decided not to take them because just thinking about it made me slightly nauseous.

I used to use ENS from Celebrate for my multi and some of my calcium but then I got tired of it and switched to multis and calcium tablets, but those are all big pills.  Maybe I should go back to using the ENS for at least one multi and one dose of calcium.  And I've been taking magnesium oxide, two 250 mg capsules, to prevent constipation, but maybe I need to try cutting back on that and see if I can do with less of that.  And I recently added two ginger capsules a day because that is supposed to have anti inflammatory properties and I was hoping it would help my back, but so far I have not noticed an improvement so maybe I just need to cut that out, at least for now.  Just so there won't be so many giant pills to get down.

Yes, we often develop deficiencies as time goes on.  The first time I had a full set of labs done, my vitamin A and zinc levels were fine.  Last time I had labs done, both were low and I had to start supplementing.

Just so you know, the ASMBS says you should start your calcium citrate no later than one month after surgery, and they also say you should be taking iron immediately after surgery.

According to the ASMBS, if you don't menstruate, that's enough iron.  If you still menstruate, you need an additional 18-27 mg iron daily.

Yes, your levels will continue to change over time, and will probably do so for many, many years.
I did not take any iron (other than what os in my multi) for the first 4 years after my RNY (I had a hysterectomy in 1995), bu****ched my iron levels slowly drop over the years even though I eat quite a bit of iron-rich foods, so after my 4 year labs I added some iron once a week even though it was still technically normal.  I just got my 5 year labs and the iron is only just staying the same, and i would really like it back ip where it was before my surgery, so I will need to take the iron more frequently or take a higher dose.

Stay on top of your iron whether menstruating or not.  My iron stayed level with supplementation prior to my hysterectomy in 2010.  I have seen my ferritin and iron sat deplete and required infusions last year.  So although many doctors don't recommend iron to post-menstruating women it still seems to happen to some of us post-surgery.

If I didn't use the upcal I would never get in my calcium. Just too many pills.

I usually use the Upcal for one dose a day.  I think what I need to do is order some yummy calcium chewables from BA or the Calcet creamy bites.  I haven't had those for a while because money was pretty tight and they cost more than tablets or Upcal D.  But they do make it easy to get my calcium in.
