Yes, newer folks, it IS possible to eat more than you are supposed to.

Dasie and I got to exchanging tips in another thread so I thought I'd make it a thread of its own. What are some tips you have for not overeating?

I'll start it off:

-Dasie suggested using smaller plates
-I suggested cleaning the kitchen before you eat your meal portion so all the food is put away and you are not tempted to get seconds

Whatcha got???

Gee, does having a spoiled dog sitting there waiting for me to share so I don't eat it all count? He'll bark at me if I don't share. LOL

And no, he wasn't always that way. He's 12 1/2 now and a lot more spoiled and gets away with a lot of things I never would have let him get away with 2 years ago.

That absolutely counts! (so long as no animals are harmed in your pursuit of healthy eating...)

I have that problem as well.  She doesn't bark, but she sits and looks up at me with her sad puppy dog eyes.  This wasn't an issue before RNY.  I guess I share better now.

Every meal I have a doggy witness waiting for the last bite.

I will be watching closely.... I have had 2 BIG days out of the last 4. Usually I can resist by finding something to keep me busy immediately after eating, but be it hormones or mental, it didn't work yesterday or Friday.

In restaurants
- order small meal - appetizer -

- ask them to bring a "box" and put away food you will not eat before you start eating.

- If still hungry after a portioned meal - wait 20 min. If not full - eat "free foods" (cucumbers, radish, celery, etc. - food that has fiber and minerals and virtually zero calories.)

- For veterans (more than 12 months post op) if you are hungry - very hungry before a meal -  drink some hot tea or decaff coffee - wait 10 min. then eat. Start with a salad.

 - Chinese place - eating with chopsticks will slow me down.

I also use ****tail-size (or baby-size) spoon and fork.  These help me slow down, take in a little at a time and chew smaller amounts to make sure the food is chewed well before I swallow.  These little tools really help!

My husband helps.  I get this feeling that I am full and I must get a look on my face too.  Because he'll asks me your full aren't you and he will move the plate away from me.  That is what helps me.  I love my supportive husband.
