OT - House Report!!!
Boy oh boy, God works in mysterious ways.
SO...the house I was SUPPOSED to see, I did not see. I got a call from the landlord right as we were about to leave saying his handyman had gone out of town with the keys. We made arrangements to see it on Monday.
Since the girls and I were dressed we decided to go to the farmer's market anyway and we did. Then I wanted to walk to the street, just to take another peek, see if there were neighbors outside etc.
We get to the block and let me tell you...the surrounding blocks are GORGEOUS. People are taking care of their homes. There is a community vegetable garden and so many flower bushes (and bees!).
So I find a family outside cleaning their yard. I ask them about the block and they absolutely raved. The family lived in one house and the dad's brother lived in another and they all had kids around my kids ages (who were out doing yard work on Saturday - go dad!). So I asked if they knew about any of the houses for rent on the block (there are three). They said the layout of all the houses seems the same and that they are all pretty nice, affordable, block is quiet, well patrolled by the police, etc.
Well, it was a serendipitous moment cuz the owner of one of the other houses I'd seen for rent on the block arrived to show it to someone. I asked if I could see it. This house sort of kicks the original house's butt cuz it has central A/C for the same price.
The house was very cute! Not as large as the house in sketchy-town but it was nice. Hardwood floors downstairs, big dining room. Tiny kitchen (but I can deal...less kitchen = less kitchen cleaning), nice backyard (even though it is across from a cemetery but I forgive it). But here is something big: the girls did not fight over a bedroom. My eldest liked one room, the younger liked the other. The master, of course, is mine. Bathroom is also a bit on the small-ish side but again I can work with it.
So the neighbors gave me a feel for the block. It's the kind of block where folks grill and invite one another over, kids play outside and everyone knows everyone. This is precisely the kind of block I love.
SO...I am still going to see the original house on Monday but I am thinking this is our street. Seriously. And all any of the landlords wants is to know that I make at least double the rent (the rent is like $870 so I make way more than double the rent).
I am so giddy right now I cannot stand it! I am Christian y'all so I praise God for this. I have been speaking out what I wanted, praying on it, asking others to pray on it and I have a really, really REALLY good feeling about this block.
It just feels like things are finally starting to come together for me!

Congrats and good luck!
It took me 2 years to find my perfect rental house. I just moved in. And loving it. The kitchen is very dated, but I love it. The kitchen lightining is from the 1940s!!! The oven is in the wall, love it, no bending!! Old oven but works! Small and cozy kitchen but but plenty storage/counter space.
