4 Month Labs - Someone with experience take a look?
Today I had my 4 month check up with my surgeon. Sounds like to him everything is looking good except my Vitamin D, so I will be working on that. I know that some surgeons have a different standard than we should have for our labs so I am hoping that someone can take a look and let me know if I should be concerned about any of this.

Most your labs look really good to me. If you want to PM me your email, I can send you vitalady's spreadsheet of lab types and normal and her suggested range.
What I see, and I am no doctor, but
PTH depending on if it's intact or time might be high or low
Protein is good but I'd like it higher
Albumin is but also slightly low vitalady's standard (she likes over 4)
Globulin is a little high but I don't know what that means.
Your Ferritin (iron store) is on the low side and I'd watch it to make sure it doesn't go down any more.
Your B1 is high. If you are taking supplements I don't think you need them.
B12 is great
D is low, I would add D to your supplements
But I am not a doctor.
Good for you for being proactive. I assume you are at Good Samaritan? I'm with PAMF in Mt. View.
Good luck.

Is there a chance you could send that spreadsheet to me as well? I havent gotten to the point of having labs yet- but would love to have it in my hands when I do go.
I tried to add you as a friend - but it says you have either made your profile private / cant be found.
Thanks so much

Your iron is on the low side and your D is horribly low. We need it to be at least 80.
There are also a number of things I don't see here, like vitamin A, zinc and copper.

If you PM me to remind me, I will send you a list of the labs I get done when I get home next week. I'm not on my computer right now so I can't send them now.
The low D might be why you are tired but I bet the iron also has a lot to do with me. Often people don't have symptoms of low D. They end up with osteoporosis, but they feel fine. But some people do say they are very tired and have a lot more energy when their level gets up.
I'll tell you what I did when my D was 25, and what I know many people here on OH have done. I ordered the 50,000 IU D3 from vitalady.com and took one a day for a couple months, then cut back to a couple times a week. I currently take 50,000 IU D3 three times a week just to maintain a good level. Your doc may think that's way too much to take, most docs seem to think so. But most post ops I know need at least 10,000 IU a day just to maintain a level of 80 or more. The vitamin D Council also says you're unlikely to run into problems of toxicity unless you take more than 100,000 IU D3 a day - and they are talking about normal folks, not RNY folks who malabsorb vitamins.

your kidneys are great, liver is great, potassium is okay but dont want any higher - are you taking potassium? If so, I would call the doctor and see if they want to cut your dose or stop it.
your total protein is good but albumin is a little low - you might want to add a little protein.
it is very strange to have such a good PTH with such a low vitamin D and high calcium. The PTH is great. The vitamin D is way too low - how much are you taking and what type? You should be taking Dry D3 - usually with a level that low, people need 50,000 units of Dry D3, 2 -3 times per week - you can get it at vitalady.com from BioTech called D3-50.
the calcium - what type are you taking and how much? It is higher than we would like which for some it means taking too much, others it means not taking enough, and others it means taking the wrong type. You should be taking atleast 1500-2000mg of calcium citrate per day in 3-4 daily doses no more than 650mg per dose and not within 2-4 hours of iron or thyroid medication
your iron is on the kind of low, ferritin on low side but not terrible
b1 - I need to know the range - the range I know is 9-44 which is for serum - but there is another range for whole blood and not sure if this is what yours is or if you are just high for the serum. if you are high, that is fine - you just pee out the excess - if you are low, that isnt good, can cause nerve damage like B12 - you need to be in the upper or over the top of the range.
b12 - isn't dangerous but could be alot better. Ideally we want to be up around 1200-1800, so, I dont know what you are taking but I would increase it - you could even double it and you would be fine- there is no danger in it being too high but there is severe danger in being too low - severe nerve damage and cognitive disfunction
do you have an infeciton? your WBC count is high which is a sign of infection but I would call your PCP
you are missing vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin K, vitamin E, selenium, zinc, magnesium, copper, phosphorus
your total protein is good but albumin is a little low - you might want to add a little protein.
