I went once and never went back.  To me it was less of  support group and more of a "here's how not to be fat" group.  The nut was not expecially skilled in bariatric diet and just touted different books on different ways of eating and diet plans.

They seriously even brought in someone that ran a WLS meal catering business once.  Instead of discussing real life food choices.

I wonder if OH is good enough.  I'd like to meet others real time who are experiencing this stuff, but I find this forum to be extremely helpful--especially when I want to know real answers--not just what my program says.

Yes... I'm one of those people who question EVERYTHING.  I need real answers with the why's and how's filled in.  I get that here.

What I'm missing is the face-to-face experience.  I don't know what most of you are like in person, and I can'****ch you change as a result of the surgery.  That might be very helpful.

So, I'm torn.  Do I take four hours a month to attend a support group (two hours, plus driving), leaving my husband without a car?  Is it worth it?  Only I can decide.  I should probably go for a few months and see, assuming my husband can tolerate being left home.

What I think is amazing about your support group is that the Doctor attends. I have never heard of that. I would think that would be a great advantage. I'd keep trying it.

Yep!  I'm excited about that, too!  And of course I'll keep going.  As long is there is useful information presented, it's definitely worth my time.

I enjoy support group for a variety of reasons. The way this program does it is a one hour nutrition group followed by a one hour support group. The support group alternates..every other month it gets broken down into newbies/long termers and a 'share your story' that preops can attend. Every other month they pick specific topics like 'mindless munching' etc.

The nutrition group is mostly useless. Its like a glorified weigh****chers meeting where they talk about recipes. Occasionally they address questions/concerns. There are some people who drive me crazy but it is what it is.

Support group is great when its newbies AND small. At times there have been 30+ people and nothing gets done. This month there were 7 of us and I got so much more out of it.

Ill keep going because its a.)suggested/required by my surgeon b.)helpful to be around people going through the same stuff and c.)its often just damn entertaining!
