Random Poll o' the Week: When I get to goal I'm gonna...???
I've had mini goals along the way and treated myself to things like a good book, a manicure, or a trip to a 'real' store. My goal is an arbitrary number - 150 - which has no relevance to anything other than its 'in the middle', I desperately just want to be average! What I take pleasure in, which in a way, is a reward, are the daily 'ah has' - I can easily fit into a conference room chair, I can climb several flights of stairs without second thought, I can kneel to play with my puppies. I do these things and then realize what I've done. It still never ceases to amaze me. I'm currently at 162, so close to my perceived goal, and below my surgeons goal.
I think many of us are so used to the 'when ....., then I'll do .....', and as some have said, they never really identify either part of the equation for fear of failure, since those of us who are or have been obese often feel like a failure, that we stop living. (English teachers, forgive that run on sentence!) It's up to each of us to embrace this tool as a passport to start living again - enjoy something each day, strive to stand a little taller, smile a little brighter, and before you know it - you are living again.
Hmmmm, I need to listen to my own advice!! Have a wonderful day, everyone.

I don't have a weight goal I have a size goal. I want to be a single digit 8! I am planning on renewing my vows with my husband in my dream wedding gown. About 1 month into planning I found out we were having a baby and I walked down the aisle in a maternity wedding gown. I want my dream gown.
After that take our dream honeymoon. We are both scared to fly I used to fly all the time I think it was the weight that held me back. He did have a bad experience on a plane but I will make him get over that and the thought of being in a Tahitian hut over the ocean will get him over the fear of flying LOL!
Laura Please take a pic of you enjoying that toast to your mom what a great way to cherish her memory! You should take sand back in a beautiful bottle to remember the spot!

Oh! I got one!
When I get to goal, I'm going to get a brazillian wax.
I've always been too shy and self conscious to do one now. But that would be a fun experiment.

I don't necessarily have to be at goal to do it, but when I've lost a lot and am much more physically fit, I'm going to run in the Warrior Dash!

My goal was always so simple. To get a BMI low enough to qualify for the kidney transplant list. I started with a BMI of 58. When I got to 40 I got on the list.
All the other weight loss has been gravy.
I never did this to look good in clothes.
I never did this to "be thin"
I did this to get a kidney and live long enough to raise my son.
My goal has been met.
Now I need some new goals. This year has been mindfullness.

To be clear, this post is about self-rewards, not goals. The goal is having the surgery, losing weight, and learning new sustainable eating habits that will allow me to maintain the weight loss. However, I believe very strongly in rewards, and food is no longer an appropriate reward!
When I reach goal weight (which is not the arbitrary goal I have listed on OH, but the weight where I feel good and can maintain), I intend to invest in a professional wardrobe that will last me many years. I've been making "do" from sale rack purchases at JC Penney. That's fine, but it would be nice to have five great suits for each season that I can mix and match.
I don't love professional clothes shopping. It takes time that I simply don't have, and you really need to do it alone, because there is no one who understands the need of your professional life like you do, so I want these clothes to last for a good 20 years.
I also want to buy one great winter coat, one great winter jacket and a spring raincoat that will last me many years. I HATE the coats and jackets they sell to plus size women. They have no shape!
I'm okay with wearing sale rack clothes for casual clothes. That kind of clothes shopping is something you do with friends or when you are shopping for something else. Most of the time, I'm pleased a*****h by t-shirts from Walmart, and although I do want two pair of great jeans, that's simple stuff. However, I have always wanted a red and white Scandinavian sweater with the metal clasps. They cost about $300, so there's not a chance I will buy one unless I am pretty sure that I won't grow out of it.
Next, I have always wanted a pair of rigid shaft knee high boots. When I have confidence that I can maintain my weight, I'm going to reward myself with one hell of a great pair of boots.
I might buy a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress in order to live my fantasy of looking like Faye Dunaway, but once again, that seems like an extravagance that I will need to really weigh carefully.
Speaking of Faye Dunaway, I do have a mini-goal reward: When I reach 180, I'm going to die my hair Faye Dunaway blonde, and have it styled in that mid-1970's style she wore, and buy new makeup that will complement the new hair color. My friend who had WLS a few years ago, has agreed to help me with the process. She's such a fashionista that I'm sure it'll turn out great!
