make your protein shake taste better

Some of you are going to laugh at this, but I swear it works.  There have actually been studies.  Not on protein shakes specifically, but listen....

Make your protein shake however you want to make it.  But put it in a really nice glass.  Maybe a fancy goblet, or buy yourself a really pretty cup with a lid, or something special.

If your protein shake is a kind of boring or even icky brownish or grayish color, add something to it for a pretty color.  Food coloring.  Or one person told me she added a little orange sugar free jello powder to her shakes, partly for flavor, but mostly for the bright color.

Consider putting a dab of fat free cool whip on top of your shake.

Add a garnish of some kind.  If it's a strawberry shake, stick a slice of strawberry on the side of the glass.  If it's a chocolate shake and you put a dab of cool whip on top, sprinkle a bit of cocoa powder on top of that.

Basically, you just want to make it look really fancy and pretty.

Here's what studies have shown.  They gave a bunch of participants three brownies.  One brownie was served on a nice china plate.  One was served on a paper plate.  One was served on a napkin.  Participants said the one on the china plate tasted best, followed by the one on the paper plate.  The thing is - they were the exact same brownies!  But the way they were saved, affected the taste, or at least, the perception of the taste.

Try it and see.  Report back and let us know how it works for you.

I know for a fact that things made in glass and porcelin taste better overall. Not sure how much that'll amp up a yukky protein shake, but it will more than likely definitely taste better than if it's made in some sort of plastic container. Plastic retains a multitude of tastes from chemicals (manufactured) to previous conctions that one makes in it.

Good info.

It's worth a shot.  I need to start drinking my protein shakes again.  I make them in a plain blender bottle with water because of the ease of it - but I don't really look forward to drinking them at all and DON'T drink them most the time.  Perhaps I need to just spiff them up a little bit and see what happens.  Buy me a pretty goblet or wine glass at the next thrift store visit...

I drink mine in a big purple cup. It is plastic.

I must have lower standards than the rest of society cuz none of my shakes taste nasty to me!

I hated them at first, but since I have been using Nik's recipes, I look forward to them every morning, and occasionally in the evening too!   I was an oatmeal person for years and didn't think I would be happy drinking my breakfast, but I love them!

New to the site.  Started my pre-op protein shake diet yesterday.  Not much of a sweets eater so I'm struggling finding a drink that I like.  Currenlty drinking GNC Lean Shake (Vanilla/Strawberry).  What are "Nik's recipes you mention above.

I completely believe presentation is 90% of a meal. To this end I dug out a little girls china set I've had for years ( for the grand daughter I'm apparently never going to have!)--it's bone china with a beautiful floral design and that's what I'm going to be eating my post surgery meals on. Plus I have beautiful lead crystal cordial glasses and wine goblets that I plan on using for my shakes--will use the cordial glasses if I can only do an ounce of liquid at a time. Hopefully that will make my meals more appealing.

Great ideas!  It's all in the presentation...
