moving along
I had my consultation yesterday and was told I need to see the psych before they could submit to my insurance (which I knew) and the doctor said while I was at it to go ahead and see the cardiologist and pulmonologist so that once I got in to see the psych and they submitted I would be done with my requirements and they signed me up for nutrition class on the 19th.
They gave me a sheet suggesting which doctors they use and I figured it would take forever to get into all of these doctors. I made an appt for the cardiologist on 4/9, the pulmonologist on 4/10 and waited today for a call back from the psych office. Surprised I received a call by 9 am saying they had an opening today at 3 and could I make it? I did!! The psych told me before I left the office that he was reccommending that I am good to go for my surgery!!! I am so excited!!
It's just all moving along so quickly... I'm praying insurance doesn't hold me up.
When my husband asked the doctor yesterday how long it would take from that visit til surgery he said "by summer if she can get into the doctors in the next month".... so now I'm uber excited they will all be done by the 10th and I just have his nut class to wait until the 19th. I hope they will send in the insurance papers as soon as they get the report from today so I can be ready right after that class.... eek I can't believe how excited I am.
My only concern is my 13 yr old son who has Asperger's and is freaked out about the surgery he can't get over the fact in his head that I won't starve eating that little. The doctor has even agreed to meet with him and try to explain it to him as he has a family member with Aspeger's too and he understands how important it is. Today, I love my doctor!

I started the ball rolling in Jan. & I am having surgery on 4/4/12. My family doctor told me it would take 6 months or longer to get approved for surgery. I worked hard & didn't give up & here I am.....soooo excited! My insurance even denied me the first time they sent all the paper work in...Second try & I was approved! Before you know it, you will have a surgery date....just don't give up. :D
Good luck & Congrats! :D

I'm glad your son is asking a lot of questions and concerned. My step-son has fetal alcohol syndrome, and has some asperger's-like traits. I dealt with it by not telling him about my limited intake, just that I would be eating a lot of meat and cheese.
My biggest concern was that he'd just gone through a very traumatic time when his mother had surgery, so I was really careful to make sure he knew that my surgery was no big deal.
Because I shared so little with him, I now have to explain that when he comes over to our house, he can't just sit there and eat all day, and he can't leave Girl Scout cookies leaving around. My plan is to clear out a shelf for him, so he can have his own space. I also have to get him to think about maybe cooking his own meals with his Dad instead of relying on me to order pizza or cook lasagne or hotdish. There are so many social issues related to food.
I think having your son visit the surgeon is a great idea. He might also want to go with you to a support group, so he can see all the people who have had the surgery who haven't starved to death!

Wow, things are moving fast for you! Hope that trend continues. Also hope your son is able to understand what's happening with you, so that he doesn't worry. Your doc must be wonderful, to agree to see your son to explain things to him; sounds like he's very kind and caring.
Good luck on your journey!

The sooner the better in case a problem occurs you can have it resolved before ur surgery date and won't have the heart breaking news of denial. I went for my consultation Sept. 2nd, had all my appointments done by the end of October, to find out my insurance requires 6 months of nutritional counseling. But having that completed made everything a smooth transition. February 28th I was approved and march 15th I had surgery... It was a long weight but soooo worth it... I'm actually enjoying my new life and no doctors.... Best of luck with everything!
