Robert,

Were you able to lose any weight while taking the pills?
Just a few more steps to wonderland......and believe me I am taking baby steps (ugh).

Yeah, it got me over a hump and dropped about 20+ lbs.  Everything has been good, but some emotional stuff has me craving junk again right now, so I may do them again for a couple of weeks to get that under control.  They seem to work great for me in short bursts.

My primary care doctor prescribed phentermine to maybe boost my metabolism since I am such a slow loser. I did not ask for it by the way.
I stopped taking it after 2 days because it felt like my heart was going to explode!
I would suggest you try and find a way to utilize the tool given to you from surgery and the knowledge from your surgeon and dietician.

I think you should do what you feel is the best thing for you at this stage of you journey. Everyone has their own opinion which is great, but only you know your own body. Maybe you do need that extra boost for a couple months to get you over that hump you can't get past. Good luck, keep me posted on how things go.

Thanks for your response. I do believe I need and extra boost to one help me with the cravings and two take my mind off feeling hungry all the time, which in turn will get that last 5-10 pounds off.

I am 3+ years out from RNY... my surgeon just prescribe Phentermine HCL.  I started taking it today... so I don't have any results to report.  My surgeon is very much on the conservative side when it comes to taking meds after WLS.  He said it has help some of his patients that have a carb addictive to jump start their weight loss.  I know my tool still works - but it tolerates carbs way to easily.  I am going to give it a try only because he suggested it.  I'll report back in a week or two and let everyone know!

I had RNY in Apr 2008...after losing 130, I have gained back 30, but feels like so much more. I signed up at a clinic today for the phentermine and topiramate. I start the meds tomorrow. I recently had an endoscopy to see how I look on the inside. I will have to go to a different surgeon to explore revision options which are limited. I worry that that the band over bypass will cause more problems and am still researching the ROSE procedure. At this clinic I will go in once a week for weigh in and see doctor each month. I am hoping for a sort of jump start to help me get back on track while I am working on whether to pursue a revision.

Anyone that will give you a revision for 30lbs is a quack and you should run as fast as you can.    I'd never let anyone put a band in my body and the Rose procedure has not displayed much success at all ....   Once the honeymoon period is over we are all in the same boat - calories in vs calories out - we still have the pouch to restrict portions but it's hard work for ALL of us!!!

There are lots of vets here who have regained and relost way more than 30lbs by going back to basics - you know, 5 or 6 small meals a day, protein first, limit white and processed carbs,  no drinking with or for 30 minutes after eating, exercise for an hour a day 4 x per week ...., logging your food and finding a support group - either at the clinic or here!

There is absolutely no need for drugs or surgical intervention for you to get back in charge of your health!

I never got to goal and need to lose 65 pounds or so. The most I lost was 130, but have gained back 30. The surgeon that did my EGD said revision was an option, my pouch is "generous", but there are also nonsurgical options, as well as getting back to basics with the food, liquids , timing of liquids, etc. I am putting it out there to see what others are doing. I know I am not the only one to not make goal or to gain some weight.
