Random Poll: I'll never do THAT again...

Let's face it. Even when we prepare, read, ask questions, much of our post-op learning comes from good ol' trial and error. So what's something you learned quickly NOT to do after surgery.

Here are a few of mine:

1. Early out: try new foods for the first time anywhere but at home.
2. Consume more than a precious few grams of sugar alcohols at any given time. Ever.
3. Most recently: Go on Fiber One binge (owie)

1) say "one more bite won't hurt" and believe it
2) mix 1/2 banana in my shake; it is something my body just decided is evil and must get out NOW

A tbsp of peanut butter is NOT ok.

No drinking water first thing in the morning.

Drink the fluids even if I don't want to (already landed in the hospital for dehydration for a week.)

My body does not approve of sugar alcohol. Even the smallest amount.

Do not wait too long to eat.

Eat protein 20-30 mins before exercise or exertion.

Oh yeah...I have finally embraced that the body does better with a LIGHT snack before a workout. I feel so much better through the workout when i do that.

Mine is to pay attention when I am eating. On my gosh anytime I take a bite with out full concentration on how I am chewing and how fast I am swallowing. I pay for it big time. Now I become one with my bite until the process is over. LOL

Two glasses of orange juice before a big meeting (my first RH episode)

Ditto the new foods for the first time.

Special K with Red Berries (wanted to die...also at work.)

I learned about the Fiber One bars prior to surgery, so they are no longer allowed for me.  That would be very detrimental for anyone around me.

Go too long without eating (this has become very evident recently)

Drink less than my 100 oz of pure water eAch day

Never combine weight loss efforts (even small ones) with marathon training. What an oxymoron!

Be happy.

Think I can get away with drinking half a chocolate shake. MAJOR dumping -- and I do mean dumping!  From both ends, unfortunately.

I'm only 6 weeks out and haven't had any major "omg, why did I do that?" moments. Except for overeating. I've had a few situations where I overestimated my pouch, or ate when I wasn't focused, and ended up feeling uncomfortably, sickly full and had to go lay down.

I've learned a few things about post-op myself, though.

I don't think I dump. I've never really tested the waters, though, so I don't know for sure. But so far, so good. It doesn't influence my choices because I always think, "Well, this time might be it." so I stay away from the bad stuff. Mostly.

I DO react to sugar, but not dumping. I get a bit of a sweat, but that's about it.

If I don't drink enough water, I can feel it. My bones ache and muscles start feeling "sticky" and crampy.

Oh! And sugar alcohols make me belch like a bar dunk at happy hour.
