Metallic/salty taste in mouth/Ketosis
RNY on 01/10/12
According to my research the constant horrible metallic/salty taste in my mouth is because of ketosis, caused by burning fat. (Which is ironic, because neither my weight or my size is changing lately.)
The problem is that everything I eat tastes so horrid that I don't even want to eat any more. I do use Listerine breath strips, which helps some between meals but doesn't help with the taste of food.
Any tips? Anything I can do about this? I'm getting really, really friggin tired of it, and it's only been going on for a couple of weeks.

Diabetic ketoacidosis is what's bad. That's what happens when your blood sugar is very high and you don't have enough or any insulin in your system to help your body carry the sugar into the cells. When this happens your body uses fat stores instead of the sugar. This high build up and acid that builds up when this happens can upon by this can be very bad and even fatal. Ketosis is really good though it means you're burning fat!!!

My fasting blood sugars (on Metformin) have been in the 70s lately. Definitely not high! Pre-surgery (on Metformin plus Victoza) they were consistently 110-130ish.
