OT - I. Am. FREAKING OUT!!! Help.
(Recap to those new to my crazy life: I am short-selling my house, which means selling it for less than the mortgage which requires me to be out of the house within 30 days of the date it is sold.)
Ok so...
There is an offer on my house.
Ok so...where am I gonna live now????
This whole process has been really unsettling, mostly because the bank wanted me to occupy the house until it sold (and hinged all moving assistance funds on my doing that) but at the same time you can't rent a place and not know when you're going to move in. So...while I look at properties every day and I've been going to see some, I don't officially HAVE a new house yet.
HOLY CRAP!
It's one of those situations where once I find a place I will be super excited but until then I am going to be completely stressed out.
Someone please talk me down from the ledge!
UPDATE: Thank you! (Especially Hillery, lol). So what I decided is this. Even though I don't 100% KNOW when the bank will accept things and yadda, yadda, there is plenty I can do to prepare (get a P.O. Box, file a change of address to redirect stuff TO the box, continue to pack and throw stuff out, etc.). I think its' a feeling of loss of control that bugs me so much. When things change quickly I feel like I cannot control them and that scares me. So for now I will control the variables I can control and then do my best to take things one step and day at a time.
There...I feel better...

Hello,
We did a short sale two years ago and although I totally understand your stress you do have time. Once you get an offer and it is submitted to the bank it can take up to 60 days for the Bank to accept or reject the offer. I had a neighbor that took about 6 months to wait for the bank. Once the bank has accepted the offer it will go into escrow. Then you have the escrow time to move out and you will have an exact date that the sale will go through. We had a 45 day escrow so we found a new place and just move the first of the next month, even though the buyers did not move in for about 20 days later. Good luck on getting the offer accepted.

Are they able to keep you in the loop as to part of the process they are in..I mean I know there is an offer but I thought short sells took months..or are one day(maybe tomorrow maybe 3 months from now) you just going to get a call saying okay its done..you've got 30 days?
As far as a new place goes..I'm not sure if your looking into another house or an apartment/condo/townhouse if its an apartment/condo you may be able to talk to the leasing agent/land lord and put down a partial deposit to 'hold' it while you are awaiting news..if they have multiple available they may be willing to do that.
We just moved a little over 3 weeks ago..I don't envy you..we had a TON of help from our church but with 3 kids everything is crazy..even with help. We moved from an older house that really needed some repair to a brand new condo..its been GREAT. I missed having all new everything..and our first electric bill came a few days ago and its 50 dollars..our bill at the old house was running us from 250-400 a month because of the POOR POOR POOR insulation and construction. Keep us posted let us know how it goes!

Madam.....please step away from the ledge. SLOWLY....SLOWLY....
*passes Nik the wine bottle* Just turn the whole thing up. Get a nice LONG swig.
There. Feel better?
It's really going to be alright. You've been looking, you have a few leads....you've been packing...it's going to be ok. Once the back accepts the offer, you will go and start putting in applications and finish up packing and then when moving day comes, you'll have a moving party complete with pizza and beer to bribe all your friends and family into helping you get out of your old home and into a new one.
Easy peasy, lemon breezy!
Here....take another swig for the road.

Um...the wine is not helping.

Hillary, you are awesome! I laughed out loud at your response.
Nik, Nik, Nik. First of all, breathe. I know you are scared, I've been in scary situations when I was a single mom too and there's nothing worse. I'm a firm believer of setting intention and knowing that it will work out. Say a prayer or meditate or whatever you do and set your intention that you and the girls will find the perfect house at the perfect time. Even write down what you need and want in a place to live. Be specific. How many bedrooms, bathrooms, school district, etc. Here comes the hard part: you then let it go. You rely on your belief that God or the Universe will provide you with all you need. As a mom, this is hard because we can be such control freaks and the not knowing is incredibly hard. But I hope that this can help you get through this challenging time.
So if you wanna hang out on the ledge for a bit, look down and know that y are on the ground floor. Drink that wine and dont worry if you have too much and roll off cuz it will be like falling off the bed.
Hang in there. This too shall pass. Not soon enough, I know, but it will.

Oh I'm excited. And scared witless.
The live by the seat of your pants mentality might come easier if I was not the single parent of two other human beings, whose father is in a war zone right now.
If he were here I could send them to him for a bit and crash with a friend. But I am on my own. Sigh. It will work out. I have faith!
