Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge
Choosing the Body By Vi Challenge
3032012As a gastric bypass “newbie (under a year or two post-op), I’ve discovered the challenge of finding foods which work well for me and my revised innards. I’ve became lactose intolerant. Initially, this seemed to be symptomatic when I consumed milk (regular – any type, and powdered). Yogurt, cottage and regular cheese did not seem to trigger a problem (ask me how happy about that I am – I LOVE cheese!). However, I ran into a problem with protein supplements (shakes and bars). The brands varied, but the outcome was the same: I’d get incredibly nauseated after consumption. Since I rely on shakes for a jump on my protein for the day, this issue posed a rather serious problem for me.
My trainer and I talked at length about this. I kept changing brands, hoping to find one that didn’t upset my insides, all the while hoping it wouldn’t take massive amounts of mental coaxing to choke it down. All the products I’ve tried all have that one thing in common: a major, nasty, thick, lingering aftertaste of whey. So whenAmy Cremen and her mom Shellay posted on Facebook about this new product they were trying, I was a little bit interested. Then they posted they were having a “tasting party" of ViSalus shakes and a presentation of a 90 Day Challenge. I thought it couldn’t hurt to look.
Between the time I messaged about attending the tasting party and the night of the event, I poked around the internet looking for additional information on ViSalus and the products they offered. Specifically, I was looking for a list of ingredients. I did find it online, and I have to admit the list is long and I can’t pronounce half the stuff there. It tends to be the longer the list, the harder it is to phonetically pronounce said list, it’ll set off a wave of nausea that’ll keep Pepto in business forever. In short – either this was going to work for me or not. I found a lot of varied information on the company, its massive growth over the past several years, and flipped through their web site. They have a lot of teaser marketing and something in my brain went off. I thought, “Oh man…this is going to be just like Amway." Still, I conceded a peek couldn’t hurt.
At the tasting party, we sampled different types of the Vi-Shape protein powder. Right away I noticed no lingering, nasty aftertaste of whey. That was SO huge! I can’t stand the taste of whey, and recently it had gotten to the point where I would gag on my shakes. I really believe food, in all it’s various forms, should be fun (don’t believe me? Check out this blog, the theme is “Play With Your Food".). I wasn’t impressed with the flavor powders you can put into the base protein powder mix. However, let me be clear: it’s a “user preference". My staple flavors of life consist of chocolate, vanilla, blueberry, Splenda (is that a flavor?), and peppermint. I’m picky, and I admit that.
During the demonstration I did notice the shakes turned out to be a bit on the thin side. Again: “user preference". I like my shakes thicker, some like them not so thick. The trick is getting them thick without ice (Jeff Martin told me about using Greek yogurt). I like to use a Blender Ball (do a Google search), and that’s mostly due to the fact I don’t want to wash out blender parts every day. I should probably insert I have a teeny-tiny lazy streak. Anyhoo, I asked questions pertaining to gastric bypass patients – me being one and all – and how they may have responded/reacted to the product line. I wanted to know how their innards handled it. That was the decision maker or breaker for me. However, nobody could really answer the question, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I kind of liken it to going grocery shopping and asking the guy stocking shelves if that off-brand canned chicken is good for gastric bypass people. I expect his answer will fall into one of two places: “I dunno" or “I’m assuming so, others buy it".
So, there I sat on the couch with Shellay as the video presentation of the party got rolling, and had pretty much made my decision I wasn’t going to move forward. Funny thing about marketing videos, they kind of make you think…just for a second…what if? I set this insane goal of losing 75 more pounds, and I really want to do it in under 90 days. Whether I do it in 90 or under 90, maybe ViSalus’ products could be beneficial.
Finally I decided to give it a try. ViSalus has a 100% money back guarantee, even if the package is open and empty. Really, where could I go wrong? So I bought a kit.
