Need advice: Is it really worth it?

So I've lost all I'm going to lose for now. I have skin. The only skin that bugs me is my arms. I know removal is not covered by insurance. I know I cannot afford to pay for it and I know I cannot take out any loans.

But a friend of mine suggested I still see a plastic surgeon to "see what they say."

What would be the point? Is there anything else I could get out of seeing a surgeon besides a bad case of depression at not being able to afford plastics?

I dont know this for an absolute fact but I have beeen told this by a few people. If there is a burn clinic close to where you live they will preform the surgery for free iif you donate the skin they remove. Its worth checking into.

Our stretched skin is no use to burn victims.

I don't know where that myth came from but it is not true at all.  In most cases, they will not/cannot use our skin.  It is too stretched out and damaged.  In some cases, we can donate it but they will not pay for the surgery.

It's like, when I had really long hair and got it cut, I donated it to Locks of Love.  They make wigs for kids with cancer.  They did not pay for my hair cut, however.

It's my understanding that this is one of those "urban myth" thingys...

If only it were true... sigh...

I can't afford to pay for PS right now, nor am I anywhere near ready. But that hasn't stopped me from researching now and learning what I can for when my cir****tances change.  I'm even making appointments to give different docs "test" drives, so to speak.

I may have spent entirely too many years in school, but any educational experience, even a consultation, you take information away from is never a bad thing. IMHO.

Best of luck,
Tamie

I would say there is no point.

UNLESS - you are the type of person that would be driven at that point to make it happen in any way shape or form.

I only know you from these forums and based on that - I know that you are single mom raising her 'divas' without a lot of support.  I think you would gladly do for them before you would do for yourself.  I also know that you are driven and determined, and once you hear what the surgeon may or may not do for you - you might just be determined to find a way.

Not much help, huh?

I struggle too, and one thing I have in the back of my mind is to schedule an appt with a personal trainer, let them see where it all hangs out, and ask them to suggest SPECIFIC toning exercises that will maybe help my jiggly bits lie a little smoother against what is under them.  Seriously, I would need glutes/quads like Mary Lou Retton in the Olympics to make my thighs look better, but a little better is a little better, and cheaper.....

And as an FYI, not all surgeons offer consults for free.  My husband has been approved by insurarnce for his panni removal.  One surgeon we saw charged a nominal fee for consult, the other consult was $432.

I can't think of what you would get out of it.

If it were me, I wouldn't do it. I would get all depressed thinking about how good it would look all fixed. JMHO.
