Questions about Jay Robb protein powder
I have not had much of an appetite lately (stress and/or depression, bored with eating the same things for 4 years), so I picked up some protein powder samples in order to get my protein in. Two of them were Jay Robb samples.
I had the orange "dreamsicle" one for dinner tonight. The packet didn't suggest how much liquid to use, so I used 4 ounces of milk. The consistency was fine (I tend to prefer thinner shakes, but was surprised that it was so thin with so little milk) and the flavor was pretty good, but was very light. I'm wondering if that is typical of the Jay Robb protein whey powders.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I used to use the Jay Robb powder early on and would mix it with 6 ozs of milk. I didn't realize how light and thin it was until I switched to RTD shakes. I really enjoyed it, but the convenience of the RTD is too good to pass up, even if the flavor of the one I use (Premier Nutrition from Costco) tastes like crap. I just suck it up, and suck it down (that sound sexual doesn't it?). :)
Yes, it does! (Now where's Paul?!? I'm sure he will be along to chime in soon.)
Thanks for the info. I like the chocolate Oh Yeah brand RTD, but it is very thick, so on the realtively rare occasions that i buy some, I chill it to just short of freezing it so at least it seems like an authentic chocolate shake.

I also started on Jay Robb (actually used it for many years preop) and have moved onto the Costco RTD Premier Protein shakes for convenience, LOL. Jay Robb tastes much better. I usually just use the RTD when I make a hot protein chocolate coffee in the morning or evening - with some Salted Caramel syrup - YUM
Did you use the whey or the egg?
I am a big fan of Jay Robb. They do seem a bit lighter to me. I prefer the egg because of no whey aftertaste. I always mix mine with water, so that probably lightens them a bit more, too.
I hope you are feeling better soon! I have been a bit down myself lately and I am wondering if it's the time of year, the weather, both, or just a normal up and down of this surgery. I also have been experiencing asthma and allergy flares lately so that is not helping either.

The samples I got were whey.
I think if I had mixed it with water (which I did with many powders when I was drinking them routinely) it would have been VERY thin even wih only 4 ounces of liquid.
Sounds like you have lot of things (or possible things) going on right now, too. Sometimes it is the combination of lots of little things that gets to us.

I just pulled out my bag and it does not actually recommend an amount of liquid on it. Some of the recipes on the bag recommend 8oz water, or 1 cup milk, or 8-12oz water. The bag I have is chocolate whey. I have never used the Orangcicle, so maybe it runs thinner? I'd like that, actually! I always used the vanilla flavor with some orange Crystal Light.
I agree sometimes little things creep in. My asthma flaring, though rare, seems to get me down when it does. I get irritated I am so fatigued from it and feel helpless laying in bed. But, I am on the mend, and keeping mindful of how I am feeling physically and mentally. Thanks as always for listening...it means a lot :)
