omeprazole seems to be working

Just wanted to update everyone.  I know I just started taking it four days ago, but my stomach was bothering me probably 75% of the time after I ate, and since starting the omeprazole my stomach has not hurt once.  I am very, very happy.

I still gotta see my PCP sometime in the not-too-distant future for that annual womanly exam we are supposed to get (which I have not had in well over a year), and to get an order for a bone density scan and I think a mammogram (you're supposed to start those at 40, right?  Man, I am getting old), so I will talk to her about my stomach then, but I'm glad I don't have to go right now to do it.

Thanks to all who suggested omeprazole!

I've tried going off of it a few times but always ended up feeling like poo and back on it.  After my last go round and a bout of gastritis I decided that I would just spend my life on it.

Glad you're feeling better.

I'm glad that it's working for you. I remember years ago we went to Vegas with my sister and her husband (this was pre-WLS) . He was suffering daily from very bad heartburn, and while on the trip he would eat handfuls of Tums or whatever antacids he could get his hands on and nothing worked. I gave him a couple of my Prilosec (prescription only back then) and you'd have thought I hung the moon! He is on it to this day and still swears by it.

As for your mammogram...may I take this opportunity to voice my humble opinion about not starting mammograms until age 40? I say this because I am an advocate of starting much earlier, mainly because my 28-year-old niece is going through chemo hell right now after being diagnosed last October with a very invasive, aggressive form of breast cancer.  Just sayin...

Good to hear your you are feeling much better, Did you check out ebay for the omeprazole? As they are much cheaper than buying at the store. Hope you continue feeling good.

I'm glad it worked! My daughter who had the same symptoms as you was on it for 3 weeks then went off it with no problems. Hopefully you can do the same.

My surgeon prescribed it as part of my post-op meds.  Supposed to be on it for 6 months but maybe it would be beneficial to stay on longer?

I am so glad it has helped!

Yes, you are supposed to start mammograms at age 40.  I did not have my first one until i was 46... until after I had my surgery and my breasts were much smaller (well, relative to the size they starte out!). I had heard lots of extremely large busted women complain about how much it hurt.

I did my first mammogram a few years ago, for the baseline.  But I thought it was time to start doing them yearly now.
