So I bought some omeprazole

I'm surprised you got quick relief, because sometimes it can take up to 1-3 days to work. I take Nexium, which is time release. I've been on it for many years. Recently, I had to buy OTC prilosec for GERD coverage, because of miscommunication between the pharmacy, myself and MD. I got Walgreens brand on sale for $20 for 42 caplets plus a $10 gift card. After 3 days I could tell they weren't as effective as Nexium, even though I was taking 2 caplets a day. Thank goodness I got my Nexium refilled.

 Kelly...
I was thinking of you today and was hoping you are doing better.  Hope the medication helps.
It sounds like maybe it helped already.  Please take care and call the dr. if needed.
Hope you are ok!

Well, I just got done eating dinner (I slept late so by the time I ate breakfast it was like lunchtime) and so far, so good.  Now, my stomach wasn't hurting every single time I ate, it was probably about 75% of the time.  So maybe it's too soon to say if the medication is really helping.  But I've had two normal meals today and no pain, so I'm happy so far.

Hey Kelly, I take omeprazole and have since surgery. I also was told to open the capsule. I took it a few times in the capsule and got NO relief at all. I take it daily with the little beads mixed in to some yogurt and it works great. You may want to get back with whoever prescribed it for you to get the "OK" to do that or I doubt it will work very well. (based on my experience anyway)

It wasn't prescribed for me.  I bought it over the counter because I've been having stomach pain often (but not all the time) after I eat.  If it doesn't help, I will see my doctor and I'll talk to her about whether or not I should open the capsule or try something else.  However, so far today I've eaten three times and had no pain.

Kelly, I also break open the capsule and just swallow the beads as per my Dr's instructions. My Dr says we are to never take pills of any kind ever again though, so I guess that's why he told me to do that. I know most people are fine taking pills after a little while, but since I don't mind not taking them, I am just following his instructions.
