Only you can decide whether you want to ay so much more for organic foods than "regular" food, but there is no reason you NEED to based on having a NY.

I tend to eat a lot of the same items and I don't cook many casserole type dishes (I live alone, so don't have to worry about feeding anyone else), but here are the things I generally have in the house:
Greek yogurt, 1% milk, LF string cheese, a variety of full fat cheeses, fresh fruit, some variety of veggies (frozen, canned, fresh), almonds, chicken breasts, chopped sirloin, tuna (both regular cans and the lunch kits), a couple of Healthy Choice Steamers frozen dinners (I don't eat the rice), black beans, quinoa, some kind of vegetable beef soup and tomato soup (I add unflavored protein powder to the tomato soup), deli meat (mostly turkey), V8 juice, grape Propel drink powder, SF Popsicles (in the summer), SF chocolate pudding cups, weight control apples and cinnamon oatmeal (which my grocery has now stopped carrying!)

I would only buy things at a health food store if you cannot get them at a regular grocery store.  Things typically cost a lot more at a  health food store.

You might want to visit a local farmer's market or look for a local farm where you can buy fresh organic food in season.  It will be much better than organic food you can buy at the grocery store, and much fresher.  I buy organic eggs and milk from a local farmer.

Packets of tuna and salmon.  I put them on top of a spinach salad with red peppers and cherry tomatoes.  I eat it for lunch every day.  laughing cow light cheese wedges, soybeans, Greek yogurt.

You might want to check out signing up for a local CSA.  Google it and find some in your area.  You still have a couple of months so sign up for the spring/summer/fall harvest so you have some time to compare costs.  It's a good way to get the freshest local produce.

But I can't live without greek yogurt, cheese sticks, pepperoni, apples, quinoa.
