I still haz a pouch!!!

Funny story especially since we were just debating the merits/demerits of the buffet.

Today I took the girls and a friend of theirs to the local swim center. After an afternoon of swimming we were all starved so I took them to the buffet. It was the most economical deal for their hungry bellies (all three of them can throw down).

So I pay (didn't ask for "the discount") and got myself a 6 oz. piece of steak. After trimming the fat it was about 4 oz. Ate it. Then could. Not. Eat. Any. More!!!

I wasn't mad. I was sorta relieved. I know beef shuts me down, but damn! I mean...I TRIED to nibble at some veggies. Then at some sugar-free dessert. No go. Here I am two hours later STILL full from 4 oz. of steak (and it was moist and tender and wonderful so it was worth it!).

After 4 years, I still haz a pouch.

Beef and tuna are the two things that REALLY make me feel my restriction.  About 3 ounces of each is about my limit, depending on the whole "small pouch day"/"large pouch day" thing...

Yay you Nik!  Sounds like a delightful day.  I haven't had a great hunk of
any beast since surgery, but a good steak sounds so good to me. I
might have to try that.

I realize I'm not even 2 weeks out, so I know it's silly to feel like I have anything to contribute here, but up until now, I haven't really felt much restriction. I eat by measure, not by "fullness", since at this point, it's hard to gauge. So I've never really felt much at a meal, full or otherwise. I've mentioned it before, but if I didn't know better, sometimes I'd have to wonder whether my surgeon actually did the surgery.

But today, I experimented with mashed potatoes blended wth protein powder, and boy, did I get a rude awakening. I was sick to my stomach and lethargic. Felt very close to throwing it up. I had to lay down and let the rock in my pouch pass. And then miraculously, I almost instantly felt better, about 25 minutes later.

I felt daring, so I tried potatoes again for dinner, but this time, blended them with gravy and pureed turkey. They sat marvelously, and I feel nice and satisfied. So, lesson learned. :)

Yep...sounds like you learned an important post-op fact of life. If at first you don't succeed, pouch, pouch again! LOL.

Steak and i have had a turbulent relationship post op. I am a beef LOVER. Up until I year ago I could not eat beef in ANY form. It always came back up. Now I've graduated to being able to eat it but not much of it. But it is food for my SOUL. So I keep trying.

Beef and pork fill me quickly, but I'm not that passionate about pork. I can eat huge amounts of chicken and seafood.

That is so good to know that you still have a pouch lol . I haven't tried steak yet., I have never been a steak eater anyway, I was never a oatmeal eater either until after wls, now I can eat it every morning.. So the next time we go out I am going to try some steak, I still can't eat beef yet or banana. Every now and then I try, but still a no go.  Cleopatra I really enjoy your post. please keep them coming take care

It is weird the things that fill me up fast. I can eat 4oz steak and some veggies. Tonight I had about 2oz of Salmon and feel like I won't need to eat for a week. Maybe it is just the small pouch day thing.
