There is no merit in undereating

Fortunately, I don't think undereating will ever be a problem for me.

yea... lets talk in a few months, or years... K?

No need to be snarky. Unless you happen to know my issues better than I do. Or have managed to acquire a crystal ball.

It is not snarky... You had the same surgery as I did... and you just had it.. I never thought I would have issues with that. Who me?

and here I am ... almost 4 years out ... and last few weeks I have to force feed myself.   Make myself eat.  I always wanted "not to be hungry" ... and once I got here... it sucks..

And it comes and goes... I get really hungry for weeks... then can't eat...  don't want to eat.
Nik post is for all of us ... to remember when they "don't want to eat" days come - that we have to.

Sorry you took it the wrong way... (HUGS)

I suppose our interpretations of Nik's post are different, which probably led to a misunderstanding.

I took Nik's post to warn against people choosing to undereat as a way to lose weight more quickly. I didn't think she was referring to people undereating due to legitimate appetite issues.

As a "professional dieter", I know for a FACT that putting one's body into starvation mode doesn't lead to a greater loss. In fact, that was my original point--that I did that to myself (unintentionally) for years just because I wasn't paying any attention to myself, and that's exactly why I'm fat now. Because eventually,. the body rebels, and you binge. Or you end up malnourished.

So no, undereating with the goal of losing more weight will likely never, ever be a problem for me. Because every fiber of my logic rails against it and knows it's wrong.

Now, that does NOT mean I will never have a problem eating in general. I realize very clearly that I will probably go through periods of zero appetite and have to force feed myself. That will very likely happen in the future. But it will never be with the intention of loing more weight.

Nik is so good.. that she writes to niebies and to old timers....

I saw that:
"Further, lack of hunger is not an excuse to not eat. Nausea? That’s another monster. If you are nauseous, it’s hard to eat and sometimes you need to let that pass or sip hot liquids or call your surgeon if it’s prolonged. Simply not having an appetite? Not to be harsh but, get over it and go eat something. Your body needs to eat."

And that is me now (last few weeks)... I have forgoten to eat on few occasions... got busy, lost track on time, was not hungry... only when my blood sugar started crashing.. (ok, it bottomed out) I realized that I needed to eat.
That's why I wrote what I wrote to you...

I read your statment as you are sure that undereating (for whatever reason in the future) will not be your issue.

No hard feelings?

No...actually Hala is right...I was talking about legitimate appetite issues. Sorry, I can be unclear sometimes.

Some folks use the "I just never feel hungry" excuse not to eat. Go eat! That's not an excuse. And when you don't eat and stall, don't say "Oh, I know I need to eat more but I am never hungry!!!" Unless you are nauseous, you are capable of eating. You don't have to overeat, but you can eat.

I was that way early post-op. And I thought it made me better than other people. I was snooty! I thought "I never eat. I'll never be like THEM. Look at them. Eating strawberries (carbs!) and full fat milk. I eat 400 calories a day. I'll show them!" (this is paraphrasing my brain but I really was that whacked out. Ask Lora. She was here.)

It was a crutch to enable my food issues. Just like overeating is a crutch, undereating can be a crutch. It all has to do with the story we tell ourselves about how we relate to food.

No...Lora was the one that made the very valid point about slowing down your weight loss. I cannot take credit for that. I was simply telling people to cut the bull**** and go eat something.

 I know I'm a fresh-off-the-table, starry-eyed, newbie post-op, but I have that same sentiment.

I secretly roll my eyes a bit when people freak out over a week-long stall. Or when they're going on and on about how hard it is to eat when they're not hungry. Just eat. Unless you're physically vomiting everything up, there's no reason not to. Being nauseous or feeling bloated is better than letting your body crash into the dirt. This is a lifetime committment. A healthy lifestyle isn't something you achieve, and then set on a shelf and admire. It's constant work, forever. So I know I have to be patient, roll with the punches, and deal with obstacles as they come, in the healthiest way possible.

I thought your post was referring to people who intentionally undereat as a way of dropping weight more quickly.  Knowing how unhealthy and unproductive that is, my statement was made in the same context as saying, "Intentionally smacking myself in the face with a hammer will likely never be a problem for me."

Not pertaining to this particular thread, but I just want to blow your trumpet a bit so you don't have to ...

You come across in your postings as very wise about this lifestyle.  There may well be bumps along the road in your journey, but not all of us *suffer* complication after complication and some of us do just do what we're supposed to do and are successful!

I rarely post (or even read) newbie posts because I don't always have much to offer (and old age is robbing me of my newbie memory - I do B12 s****** a week so I know it's not that LOL), but I think you make a very valid contribution to this board in sharing sensible, newbie advice!   I hope you stick around to become one of us old grizzled vets!!!

Aw, thank you, Kim, that's very, very sweet of you.

I have zero experience with post-op life. I'm 9 days out. I'm basically a WLS fetus. :D
And I certainly can't predict what kind of sturggles I may have in the future. So I sincerely apologize to any who were offended by my post. I certainly didn't mean to diminish the struggles anyone else is having, and I do get it. When a pregnant person tells me, "Oh, my kids are NEVER going to watch TV", I have the same reaction. I just shake my head and hope they're buckled in for the rude awakening. ;)   So I do understand and appreciate all of your points. It was a miscommunication between Nik's post and myself, that's all.

I appreciate the kind words. More than you know. :)
