Don't be that person..

A few days ago, I joined some friends at a restaurant to celebrate one of their promotions. The restaurant happened to be a buffet and as luck would have it - one of the women at a nearby table was a gastic bypass patient. I know this because she stated it to the waiter and then yelled it at the manager when she was refused the childrens buffet price. Seriously?!?!

Look, I get it. I don't love paying $19.95 for the small amount of food I can consume, but that's life. I don't expect that they will do anything for me. I've asked at restaurants if I can order off a kids menu or a lunch portion and if I'm told no, I simply say it's ok and move on. Order from the dinner menu and box up my leftovers. This woman did not choose that route. Instead, she threw a FIT. Literally yelling at the manager that it wasn't fair to her because she could only eat 1 cup of food and it wasn't equal to $19.95. Then she stated she would simply pile seafood on her plate and throw it all away to "get her moneys worth".

The moral in this - don't expect any special treatment. Handle the situation with grace and with class. If people make accomodations for you, acknowledge that they are doing you a favor. It reflects badly on all of us if you don't.

Agree. If she was so worked up about paying for food she couldn't eat, she should have brought her own dinner and not bought a meal at all.

Many times buffets won't let you do that. I know every one I've been to, you go in, you pay.

Then I would just pay. It's silly to choose to go out somewhere and then get all worked up over the cost.

Patrons aren't just paying for the food they eat, they're also paying for the building's rent, insurance, overhead, employee's salaries, and operating costs.

If I can't afford to pay the regular price, then I wouldn't go.

True dat. Sounds terrible, but I'd pay and make my brother eat twice as much. LOL!

Upon discharge from surgery, I am told that I will recieve a Medical Card that I can show at restaurants and was told most of them will offer smaller portions with smaller prices....  I thought that was pretty cool....  so note to self...  upon discharge...  be sure to get this medical card...  and if the restaurant does not accept this....  just be cool about it and share a plate with a friend.  Why stress?  No need to get excited about rules you may or may not be able to change....

I beg to disagree. If your family, like mine, is buffet obsessed and the buffet has a discount, I use it!

Golden Corral has a price they call "medical buffet" (subtle, I know). It's not much off but considering I eat the equivalent of maybe ONE good plate of food (and it took me four years to get to that one plate), I like that I can get at least a couple of bucks knocked off the price.

I don't tend to use it outside that though.
