President's Day game, anyone?

I'm pretty passionate about celebrating holidays for what they are. So I've been reading up online about our many presidents in the U.S.

I found out some pretty interesting things about them. I wonder if you know any interesting presidential factoids. If so (read: if you Googled "presidential factoids"), throw them out and we can all try to guess them (read: Google the answers)!

Don't just sit by the sidelines! Join in!

I'll start:

Thomas Jefferson. By now we all know DNA evidence links him to his slave, Saly Hemmings, whom he is said to have had numerous children with. That was scandalous back inna day. What OTHER thing about Sally Hemmings might WE have found scandalous? (Hint: think of the phrase "all in the family.")

Wasn't Sally also the half sister of  President Jefferson's wife Martha?

I don't have time to google this, I am on my way out the door to the doctor but I think my
husband read this to me recently in a Thomas Jefferson book he was reading.

Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President, came to office, the White House wasn't even called the White House! People called the building the President's Palace, President's House, and the Executive Mansion. Roosevelt officially named it the White House in 1901.

The president's palace? Wow. After all those years hating on England, I'm surprised that flew for so long!

Ulysses S Grant was ticketed for exceeding the Washington speed limit on his horse, and was fined $20.

William H Taft was once offered a contract to pitch for the Cincinnati Reds.

Warren Harding was the first president to ride to his inauguration in a car.

Richard Nixon was the first president to visit all 50 states.

Andrew Jackson was the first president to ride in a railroad train.

Kennedy and Harding were the only two presidents to be survived by their fathers.

James Madison is the only president to have BOTH his Vice Presidents die in office. (Man, he must have worked them hard!)

'Broccoligate' caused many broccoli farmers to get unhappy when George Bush stated that he hated it. However all was forgiven, when with good humor President Bush accepted a truck load of the stuff at the White House.

Andrew Jackson and his wife were married, thinking that the divorce had gone through, when in fact it had not. They then had to wait until her divorce was finalized, and then they remarried.
