interesting observation about raw whole milk

Since switching to raw whole milk, my partner has lost almost 20 pounds.  I had read that the increased fat (we used to use skim milk) would not cause weight gain, that it was actually a good kind of fat, but that was definitely something he was concerned about.  I don't think the only reason for his weight loss is the change in milk.  He doesn't even drink milk every day.  He's been eating a lot less junk food and more fruit lately, too.  I'm sure having an apple for an afternoon snack instead of a snickers bar has a lot to do with it.  But it's just interesting to me.

He also does not have symptoms of lactose intolerance anymore - he does not stink up the whole house when he does have milk!

It is - both the weight loss and the decreased stinkiness!  He's all excited because he needs to go buy a new belt, his old one doesn't have enough holes now.

My nutritionist thought I was crazy when I said skim milk gives me painful, stinky, gas but 2% or whole milk doesn't. Sounds like I'm not the only one!

Drinking higher fat milk never seemed to affect my weight one way or the other, but it was much easier for me to digest.

I don't think it's the higher fat that does not give him gas, I think it's the fact that the milk is not pasteurized.  Pasteuring milk destroys the enzyme lactase, which helps you digest the lactose.

You are benefiting from the milk the way God intended it to be. It is definitely better for you.

I would LOVE to be able to find/buy raw milk. I drank it as a kid and it was soooo good. We have goats and I don't mind goat's milk, but fresh cow's milk--OMG. We would buy a cow but the drought situation here in TX makes finding good hay difficult.

There was a guy up in G'town that sold raw milk. I wish I could find his contact info again. We had a coop that would buy from him once a week and I'd pick it up from someone's house. It got too annoying for her though, so she stopped.

ETA: I found it! Dyer Dairy

Ah, I might have to call them next time I am in the Austin area. I'd have to get some ice chests since it is about a 7 hour drive home. Wish I could find some closer.
