My surgery journey has come to an end. My insurance has dropped me(I had medicaid). I am no longer eligible. I had to return my cpap. And am concerned about my meds. I know God has a purpose and a plan in all this. But I am confused, scared and so disappointed. I am going to continue working on my diet, exercise etc. Therefore if I get insurance in the future that covers WLS, I will meet the criteria. Thanks all for your support. I am still going to lurk around this site. Be blessed y'all!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear this.  Talk to your doc about your meds, maybe she can give you samples.  Also many pharmaceutical companies have programs to give free meds to some patients in need.

Do stick around here still.  We'd like to support you on your weight loss journey even if you won't be having surgery right now.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

FYI
In most states, there is a categories for Medicaid called Medically Necessary and/or Categorically Needy. You may be able to show proof that you need CPAP , meds, and maybe WLS. I know medicaid mostly based on income/wages but if you get a nice caseworker they may extend it for you. Also, If you qualify for SSI, then you would be able to be on medicaid as well. Check online for your states requirements.

Hope this help and best of luck.

Philippians 4;6-7

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

This isn't the end of your journey, just a temporary road block.  Try to stay positive, and be patient.  Best of luck to you.

Lisa:
I know you can knock off 50 lbs. without the surgery.  To begin with get any junk food out of your house and never buy any again.  Nothing with white flour, sugar, corn syrup, white rice, white pasta, candy, cakes...you know what I'm talking about.  Stock up on fruits and veggies, fat free milk and lower fat meats and whole grains.

google Richard Simmons and read his daily message.  He has tons of information...one day at a time.  email him...he will write back.

Take your time losing...believe me it will come off...be it ever so slowly.  In the long run we all have to get back on track with common sense dieting or we gain or stop losing.  I don't care what kind of surgery you have.  Eventually you will be able to eat more, you will absorb more, and your body can tolerate more kinds of food.

Look at the number of revisions!  People that are successful at WLS are not eating junk food.  Perhaps in the beginning portion size pulls them through but eventually we all need to look at what we are eating and eat healthy.

You can lose 50 lbs. and still have WLS further down the road if you have a change of insurance. You will be healthier and the surgery will be easier for you.  You can start now learning better eating habits...you know you can.

Before you eat make sure you thank God for giving you the food you eat and enjoy it.  I will remember you in my daily prayers.  I am 5 years post op and still struggling too, please remember me as well.  I appreciate it.  thanks,

Tri

Hi Lisa S.
Your right God always has a plan!  I wish you the best.  I tryed to have surgery in 2006 and was told NO by insurance but finally had surgery in April 2011 and I'm down 115lbs.  Hang in there!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I wonder if you can apply for a grant for the cost of weight loss surgery through a site a friend told me about? It might be worth checking out. It's called the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America and their site is http://wlsfa.org/ . Best of luck to you and don't lose hope!
