OT - need help, ant problem in my kitchen!

I need some serious help.  For the past couple weeks I have had a big ant problem in my kitchen.  It is so gross trying to cook and ants keep crawling across the counter.  It makes me all itchy, like I'm afraid the ants are getting on me.  I am so grossed out.

What I have done so far is to try to keep the counters clean, rinse any dishes that get left in the sink so there is nothing for them to eat, bought some ant traps at the store (they don't seem to be helping at all) and I have ant spray that I spray them with when I see a bunch of them and it kills them (then I have to clean dead ants off the counter which is also gross) but that doesn't stop them from coming back soon.

It is really bad.  I have never had such a bad ant problem before.  I would be calling an exterminator if I could afford it, because it is seriously that bad.

So what can I do to get rid of ants that does not cost much money?  I cannot stand it anymore!

Do you rent or own?

Do you know how they are getting in?  Try to block them off at the pass, so to speak.

Big black ants or the little ones?

Ant traps usually help us out tremendously, not sure why you aren't having much luck with them.

You might need to do the old, pull out EVERYTHING in the cabinets and wipe them all down, trick.  Sucks but sometimes it is the only way.

I feel for you - I can hardly sleep when we are having issues, I am afraid they are crawling on me in the dark!

I own.  If I rented, I'd have the landlord dealing with it, believe me.

They are little ones.  I have had pretty good luck with the ant traps before so I'm not sure why there aren't helping.  Maybe I somehow got defective traps?

I don't actually see where they are coming in but there is a small window in the kitchen over the sink and they might be coming in there.  That's where I am seeing them the most, on the counter around the sink.  But they are on the stove sometimes, too.

Everytime I am in the kitchen washing dishes or something, for a long time after that my skin just crawls.  I keep itching and thinking I feel them crawling on me.

You can get some gel at Lowes. It's for ants and roaches. It is in a big syringe like thing and tastes really good to them, so the eat it and die. You could put the gel in cracks and places like that where you see them the most. Don't put it where children or animals can get to it.
It is made by Raid. HTH!

Hm, I'll look into that.  I do have cats and they don't get on the kitchen counters often but do occasionally and they can if they want to so if the gel would taste good to them, then I shouldn't use it.  I'd have no way to keep them from getting on the counters at all unless I stood guard in there 24/7.

If they are coming in a window, you could put some in the seal where they are actually entering, and where your kitty's won't get into it. ;)

Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be!

Look outside the window and see if you can find a nest.  You want to get a bait that ants will carry back to the queen.  If you kill the queen it will take care of the nest.

I feel your pain! I am constantly on the look out for ants! I have an issue every three months, in the kitchen and the bathroom. We have several different kinds of ants here, but the Terro poison works every time for every kind of ant. It's a liquid bait, you put the trap in the ant trail, they feed on it and take it back to the nest, killing them all!
They nest in the walls here, often in switch boxes and outlets. The exterminator here says bait only, sprays only spread them out, creating more nests.
Good luck killing them off! The Terro usually takes a day to work.

1. lysol
2.baby power
3.bleach
4.salty water

but try the vinegar first.. spray it on and follow the trail..
you probably have this around the home you could try until one works and save your self lots of money

I don't have any baby powder, but I do have vinegar, bleach and salt.  I'll try the vinegar first.  Thanks!
