I've had horrible problems with pooing since my surgery. It feels like unless I take miralax everyday, things just don't move. But its probably not good to take miralax everyday is it? I have tried adding benefiber, but so far it hasn't helped much :( I'm hoping when I'm further out it won't be so bad. I thought at first that it was the iron I was taking so I switched to carbonyl iron, but that hasn't helped yet either....I guess this is just one of the "side effects" of surgery that my surgeon neglected to mention lol

You're pretty new out. Remember, food moves food through the system so if you're not eating a lot that can contribute. And FIBER! It's important but, as Hala says above, fat is too. It "greases your innards" so to speak.

On the rare occasion I have trouble going I do the following: eat something with a good deal of fiber and some fat (full fat Greek yogurt with fiber one on top for instance) and then a few hours later chase it with a protein shake. works. Every. TIME!

Ok, since this is a safe space I'd just like to day that today I made a foot long. And no, I am not kidding.

I got a really good excretory system. I probably don't deserve it.

Miralax has made my life bearable, too.  It was so bad before that I gave myself a hernia from straining.  Since I started on Miralax I have been as regular as clockwork.  Except now.  Yesterday I had said hernia repaired.  Again.  And it hurts to pass gas or anything else.  So I am so bloated and that causes pain.  But if I try to do anything it hurts more.  Oh well.  This too shall pass.
Oh, and I invested $25 in a little bidet thing for my toilet.  Easy as pie to install and I love it.  I wish every toilet had one.  With the Miralax it is so soft that it gets sticky.  This takes care of that problems.  I bought another one for my upstairs bathroom but I have been too lazy to install it.  Which is dumb because it is very easy to install.  Anyway, spend the $25 and you will never regret it.

Let me just start out by saying that this surgery is the best thing i hve ever done for myself.

But the pooping thing,  well, that is the one thing that could change my mind.  I have been pushing BASEBALLS thru a pin hole!  So freaking painful!  I drink all my water, plus some, add benefiber to my water and my shakes and still... Bleeding, pain and the whole works.  OUCH!!!

I go to the dr. tomorrow for my 6 month check up.  I am hoping that it will be ok for me to add some Miralax to my diet.

I have lost 60 lbs in 6 months,  I have been stuck here for a while.  One pound from the 100's!  So looking forward to that number.  I feel like my bathroom issues are kinda holding me back.  I have no dumping problems, and kinds wish I did.  Might make pooping easier!

Thanks Nik for this thread.  It's been bothering me for awhile now. Also thanks for all the posts on WLS foods!  Your site is a favorite and so helpful!

OK, I am so thrilled for the start of this conversation.  For a person who have had bathroom phobias, I can't believe how much I like, laughed and found this posting valuable. I got some great ideas. I was only going every three days after spending at least 30 minutes in the bathroom.  I am going to try some of the suggestions.  Thank you Cleopatra this was a great post starter!

Foods: I get a good amount of fat & fiber in daily, as well as 80oz liquids. Things seem to be easier when I am getting in more veggies.

Pooing, for me, is the delicate balance. Must do probiotics & fiber every morning. And my system likes the expensive probiotics so no bargains for me. I respond better to carbonyl iron than other types. If I don't poo every 24 hours, I need to take proactive measures (extra fiber, colace, miralax, etc) or I'm gonna be in trouble! I have an enema sitting in the back of the closet for the OMG emergency types. I think I'd only had loose stools once in the past 10 months!

I don't weigh myself more than 2x in a week but I do try to time my weigh in after a good poo.....

 Poo..poo the magical word...

Ok not really, but since my surgery...the only thing I can say is pain.  The baseballs out of a pin hole was a good analogy..anal..anyways that was my 12 year old coming out...

I have added bran buds and I still take a daily stool softener, and min one cup of coffee and I'll go every other day..now they are more like rabbit turds and still take two or three bathroom runs to 'clean out the daily/other daily'  but there is no more crying, rocking, straining, putting vasaline on the butt so that's progress right?

I'm adding more veggies I hope that helps...
