I used to get this when I had acid reflux really bad.  Does your throat feel like you drank tobasco sauce?  When the acids in my stomach would back up in my throat while sleeping that's what it would feel like to me, and I couldn't catch my breath, felt like I was choking.  Although I'm on meds now to control it, I still keep max strength mylanta in the fridge for emergencies.

Peace & Blessings... Kelly

COULD BE ACID REFLUX OR SOMETHING LIKE IT.. ITS WHEN THE FOOD COMES BACK UP EVEN IF YOU DIDNT HAVE ANYTHING TO EAT BEFORE GOINGTO BED...YOUR EARLIER FOOD COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS....LUNCH , BREAKFAST OR SNACK!!! AS FOR THE BREATHING YOUR BEST BET IS TO CALL THE DR.. OR GO TO THE E.R.
GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US POSTED!!

I haven't had surgery yet, but I've had that issue with reflux AND my sleep apnea, which is moderate per the sleep study I've done.  I wonder if this is related to both/either?

Do you sleep on your side/back?  Mine is worse when I sleep on my back, so I sleep on my side - which helps control/avoid both.

I don't know. I don't think its acid reflux. Are you still taking pepcid or anti-acid blockers? Is there any pain involved? I would say if it continues, ask to be scheduled for an upper endoscopy. They may be able to find the culprit that way. Just make sure it does not turn into an ulcer, then you are in serious trouble. Good luck.
