OT: Continuing drainage from nose after breaking bone(s)
After my adventure in the hospital 2 weeks ago where the ENT surgeon apparently broke one or more small bones up in my sinus cavity when inflating a balloon on a packing stick to try to stop a heavy nosebleed (my anticoagulation was way out of whack), I am still having an almost constant dripping of what looks like blood tinged serum from the side of my nose that was bleeding initially. They told me to follow up with the ENT surgeon after 7 days, but after he triggered me so badly and was such a jerk about not wanting to wait for them to give me some Ativan and morphine before he packed the other side, I don't really want to see him again. Despite a 5-day ZPack in case of infection after it was packed for 4 days, and despite me not currently taking ANY Coumadin, though, this dripping continues. I just keep changing the piece of cotton ball in my nose, but it will be 2 weeks on Tuesday and I had expected this to stop by now.
I have never had a broken bone in my head before so don't know if this is normal or not.
Anyone know what I might be able to do short of going back to see he ENT surgeon?

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Lora, can you see a different ENT? I have PTSD as well and can be easily triggered during certain medical procedures, and I've actually told docs up front that I have PTSD and what I need them to do so I don't get triggered. For instance, I told my dentist before I even sat in the chair and told him I needed him to tell me everything he was doing in my mouth and that if I said "stop," he needed to stop immediately. He was fine with that. If he hadn't been fine with it, I would have found another dentist.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I probably can, but you know how hard it is sometimes with one surgeon not wanting to "clean up" after another surgeon has messed up someone or there has been a complication.

I think if you explain the WHYS of your request to see a different doctor you will have a different experience. Stress that it's not because of the work but rather the bedside manner and feeling condescended to that makes you want to seek out a more professionally behaving professional.

I would definitely see an ENT or perhaps a plastic surgeon. I just don't think it is wise to let it go. I saw a medical show on TV that stressed the fact that there is only soft tissue between the nose and the brain. It made a big impression on me to be careful when it comes to problems with the nose. I wish you could see my ENT - he's very easy on the eyes as well as the nose. Sorry, you are still having problems.
I can completely understand now wanting to see the same ENT doc. But you need to see one if you are still having this type of drip from your nose. Does he have a partner you might be able to see instead? Or when you call another ENT office and they want to know why you dont want to see Dr X tell them. Even in a big city the medical community is small and it doesnt take long to get a reputation everyone knows about. They may completely understand. I wish you the best of luck with this issue.
