Chantix - Quitting Smoking (AGAIN)

I did pretty much the same thing.  I quit for 9 months after my surgery and then I started again.  I used Chantix that time and I started it up again and quit again over 2 months ago.  I've lost count of how many times I have quit.  Once I quit for nearly 8 or 9 years.  I don't plan on starting again but even if I do I will never stop trying to quit.
I had a hernia repair last April and it came back a few months ago.  My surgeon told me that he refused to operate on smokers because he has found that 80% of the time the hernia will come back.

I quit smoking and dipping copenhagen ( had both habits) 2 1/2 years ago using Chantix.

I had been quit for a couple of months when my brother ( 20 months apart  and my best friend in the entire world) was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer . He passed away 30 days after his diagnosis . It was quite a reinforcement for me to stay quit, to say the least. My brother was 51 years old and left 2 daughters below age 18.

Please quit smoking now . It gets no easier as you age and the ramifications of the habit are lethal.

I quit smoking about 12 years ago cold turkey.  It was the most difficult thing I have ever done, but also the best thing I ever did for myself.  I remember crying and locking myself in the car and just yelling.  But, what I did was REMEMBER how horrible it was to quit, and to this day I remember when I might have an urge for a smoke.   If I could smoke with no repercussions I'd be a chimney...I love to smoke, but I love to live and breathe and run to the bathroom in the middle of the night and not be out of breath by the time I get back into bed.

It's such a strong habit.  Can you believe that after 12 years I still sometimes find myself rummaging in my purse and realize I'm looking for my cigs?!?!?  Crazy!  I do carry a straw cut in half and sometimes when I get stressed I hold it like a cig and take deep breaths through it.  Somehow it helps.

Good luck and my best advice is to remember how hard it is to quit and know that you don't ever want to have to do it again.

I quit 9/7/99 and to this day every time I get on a plane I don't know how I will endure it without smoking.

Just keep trying. Also when you really want a cigarette take a deep breath. Smoking is about taking deep breaths. Sometimes the craving is you not breathing deep. Try it...it works.

It took me so many times to quit. I can't handle the Chantix dreams. Finally. got an electronic cigarette and it worked. I have it here just in case. I didn't make a big production out of it and just kinda forget about them for the most part. Try and remember they taste and smell horrible and will cut your life short. My mom died of lung cancer and who knows where and when for me, but I would rather not die of something 100% preventable. I know you can do it.

I smoked for 38 years - quit numerous times but never longer than a few months. I tried the patch, gum, cold turkey, Chantix, anything available. August 2010 I tried an electronic cigarette. Quit regular cigarettes completely. Started at 24 mg nicotine liquid, titrated down to 0 nicotine by August 2011. Still use the e-cig occasionally as a pacifier, but with no nicotine. Worked for me.

Here's the trick:
Eat a SMALL amount before taking the Chantix.
Take the Chantix with milk.
Eat a small amount of food again.

For some reason if I take the Chantix and then eat, it's all bad.  If I eat and take the Chantix, I still get sick.  If I take it in the middle the sickness only lasts for a couple minutes.

Good luck and GOOD FOR YOU for coming out.  You need all the support and encouragement you can get.  We should have a Nicotine Anonymous forum!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I quit twice as well, both times with Chantix. I quit when I got my band, then started again due to a very stressful event. I quit again, two years ago this month!

I have had a few times where I have wanted one, but i know that will cause a full on addiction again.

Hope tomorrow goes better for you taking it with food. Keep yourself busy. I became pretty awesome at Guitar Hero when I quit.
