daily vitamin check in

I've got everything in but my iron and C.  Including all my calcium.  I have now gotten all three doses of calcium in every day for a whole week.  Which is a really big deal because I had been missing at a dose almost every day.  I'm going to be 25 mg short of iron today because I ordered more but it has not arrived yet.  It might come tomorrow.  A couple days without iron shouldn't hurt me, though, my iron level is usually pretty good when I get labs done.

Speaking of labs, I have to go get them drawn one day this week.  I'm always excited about seeing my results and if I need to tweak my vitamins at all.  It seems like there is almost always something that needs adjusted, which makes me glad I am doing labs every six months instead of just once a year as recommended by  my surgeon.

So, how are you all doing with your vitamins today?

Kelly, I seem to getting all my vitamins 3 X a day. I had been out of my iron (Sun down perfect iron) for at least 5 days. I was taking 4 iron with 2000 vit. C. I was suppose to get my blood drawn this weekend, but the military hosp. personel neglected to put the orders in the system. I am going to go to my own family doctor to get blood work done now. I had such a hard time getting an appointment for my 1 year checkup since Nov. and now this! Boy was I angry! Sorry back the the iron. I ordered Vitalady Tender Iron. It can be swallowed or chewed. My question is, how many should I be taking and do I need to take them twice a day or can I take them all at once. I was looking for the Proterrin iron @ Walgreens and asked the pharmacist if they had any. She ask if the doctor had told me to take those. I told her I had RNY and wanted something that would get my levels up and keep them up and to be gentle to my stomach and non constipating. She told me to take Ferrous Gluconate Elemental Iron 27 mg...to take 2 in the A.M. and 2 in the P.M. with the vit C.  She went to check on her computer to see if she could get the info as to how much iron should an RNY patient should be taking and said she did find the info. I know you are not a doctor, but I know you have done so much research and can give helpful advice...I trust and respect your advise. Your help will be greatly appriciated.

The ASMBS says menstruating women should take 54-63 mg daily and everyone else should take 36 mg daily, unless your labs indicate you need more.

Kelly, I no longer have periods. My last labs were done 6-2011. Iron, Total was 145. Ferritin was 144. Is low for me? I'm 57 years old.

Thanks,

Your iron level is fine.  I would just take the 36 mg iron a day, then.

I have one more dose of calcium to go. Weekends really are my hardest time. During the work week it's like clock work, the weekends I get busy doing and don't always think about taking.

I finally ended up getting a pill organizer to bring to work with me so I finally got all my vits in every day this week.  Now to keep it up.

Got all my vits in today too!  I have problems with getting my calcium in too, Kelly!  I can't wait until I can take them in pill form - I think it will be easier for me.
