Rant thread!

We haven't had a rant thread in a while!

I only have a mini-rant but still.

I get all dressed to go the gym.  And I look CUTE. Got my new gym clothes on (black/purple reppin my Ravens all day long...), have my gym hair on and everything! Oldest kid is on a school trip. Go to pick her up so I can drop her at home and go work out.

But the bus was late. Way late. Like 40 minutes late.

Now it is too late to go to the gym. I'll do my Zumba but still. All this cuteness and not one single buff guy is going to see me!!!

In the revered words of Florida Evans, "Damn, damn, DAMN!!!"

You are so fricking funny and Nik (not kissing your butt) you have been a saving grace to me!   I had my surgery on January 11th and I am down about 28 pounds.   I keep reading how others have lost 100 in four months etc and I am worried if I am doing things right.   Can you give me a little guideance.   I am going back to work next week and almost feel ashamed that I am not down more.   Not going to bad talk myself and I am sticking to my pledge, but I could use a word or two........ Ok, so lemme get this straight. You're down 28 lbs. in less than a month???

Chile, I did my first follow-up appointment at about 3 weeks post-op and I'd lost 12.5 lbs. And was happy as a clam cuz I didn't know any other post-ops were doing any better than me! Curse the day I began to compare myself (which sort of coincides with the day I first arrived on this board which I do not curse but still...)

I lost 12.5 lbs at 3 weeks out. By 7 mos I'd lost 100. It happens. Let it happen. ENJOY it WHILE it is happening. Don't be like me. I missed the whole damn thing worrying.

No doubt you are doing great!!  At my 6wk check I had lost something like 11 lbs (maybe 13?).  I am not quite 6mths out and have lost about 80!

No shame - stick to the program and do right by yourself by not weighing constantly ;)

Can we add our own rants?

Omg. I had the orientation meeting today with my surgeon's NP. We went through everything and got our "Bariatric Bible" packed full of info, and everything. All's well.

Except at the end, she reminds us that we all need to spend these last couple pre-op weeks losing weight and exercising. She suggested we all lose about 5 pounds. She even warned us that a lady scheduled for this very morning was actually sent home and her surgery postponed because she'd gained weight.

"No worries for me", I thought. When I got to the surgeon's office this afternoon and they weighed me, I was down 4 pounds from last week. Yay! So I thought I was smooth sailing.
As we were leaving, someone asked the NP to check her file and see if she'd gained or lost anything. The NP checked, and told us we were all welcome to check if we wanted to be sure. So when I stepped up, expecting to be well within my safe range, she told me that I am actually UP seven pounds from my registration weight. I registered back in March! I didn't realize they were comparing our current weights to where we were all the way back then.

So now I have to figure out a way to lose those 7 pounds just to get back to level ground, plus the 5 extra she wants us to lose before surgery. How is it possible to lose 12 pounds in two weeks without lopping off a small limb?

All this work, and now I risk my surgery being canceled. I could cry.

I wish I could loan folks my surgeon. He doesn't do crazy crap like that. He bases whether you should lose weight on your labs and whether he thinks you have fat in places that might be problematic to him (which, according to him was either around your airway or fatty liver).

I'm sorry that happened but you can do it!!!! It will require diligence but you seem to have your head screwed on tight from what I've seen so far. You got this!

My surgeon has us do a pre-op two week liquid diet. I did ten days of it before my surgery was rescheduled and had lost 11 pounds. I was drinking 5 Muscle Milk light ready to drink shakes a day. On really hungry days I could have up to 2 cups of non-starchy vegetables.

Good luck to you!
