OT - Project "Veggie Kid" Update

No she hasn't given up the notion of being a vegetarian.

But until payday she is forced into a limited diet as I only have the usual non-meat things that I keep around. For what it's worth, it could be worse for her as I generally get most of my protein from dairy anyway, but still.

With the few dollars I do have we took an exploratory trip to Whole Foods (with a detour to Chipotle) while La Grande Diva was on her school trip (the fateful one that prevented me from showing off my new gym outfit).

I like Whole Foods because they group the vegetarian and vegan stuff together, making it easier to browse all the selections. I told homegirl she could pick one thing she wanted to try. She labored over this. Child has been obsessed with the concept of Tofurky for quite some time now but actually opted for meatless meatballs. She's not tried them yet.

I also  made her some spicy curried chickpeas with shredded carrots. She's always loved that when I've made it so that will be a good dinner for her. At Chipotle she got the vegetarian bowl and liked it a lot (for her as long as it has guacamole and she slathers it in that Chipotle tobasco sauce, it's all good).

So...that's my update for now. We picked up a little of a lot of things at Whole Foods. I got some Brazil Nuts (I think I read a serving has a whole day's worth of selenium?) and she got some carob-covered almonds which she liked very much. I stocked up on TVP (although I was sorta pissed the price increased from $1.99/lb to $2.19/lb, but then that's still cheaper than most ground meat!) and am resolving to learn to make meatballs out of them!

I must have missed your first post on this topic. I hope to catch future posts!!

My daughter is 3 1/2...therefore cannot label herself as a vegetarian. However, my hubby and I are convinced that is what she will end up doing. She loves greens and most veggies and HATES most meat. The only thing we can get her to eat is turkey dogs. She also eats the fake chicken nuggets.

Her standard meal is soup, salad or cereal (she even eats non sugary cereal).

It will be interesting to see how you handle this...and get meal ideas!!

For all intents and purposes, the child has been practicing predominant vegetarianism for quite some time. She'll eat ground meat and up until recently chicken nuggets, but that's all. Her main sources of protein, like mine, tend to be from dairy (I'm trying to rectify that for myself)

But she came to me and said she'd like to try eating a vegetarian diet so I am trying to support her in it. Once I can go shopping properly it won' t be a big deal. We have always done Meatless Fridays for Lent so I have a plethora of recipes she likes that I can make. Just gotta buy the stuff!
