A few signs you're moving in the right direction...

…with healthy eating of course. This list is not exhaustive. If you have stuff to add, please do! Just thought it’d be a fun way to get our Wednesday started off.

You might be headed in the right direction with healthy eating if…

·         You have enough organic waste to start a compost pile. Whether you WANT to is another matter altogether! But as you get further out from surgery and integrate more whole fruits and veggies into your diet, you produce a lot of organic waste: apple peels, onion skins…the whole nine! You may also notice your trash can looks a bit neglected as you may not be eating a ton of prepackaged foods either.

·         You are intimately familiar with the décor of both your bathroom AND the bathroom at work. And no…this is not necessarily about poo! This could also mean you are urinating more. Which is usually a result of increased water intake!

·         Someone claims a food is healthy and, inexplicably, you spit out perfectly accurate nutritional data on said food to refute their claim. Or does that only happen to me? I didn’t know I knew the nutritional information of so many foods until one day I got into a heated debate about some food (can’t remember which) and was able to spit out the accurate serving size, calorie, carb and protein counts!

·         You are your own personal heating device in bed. Again, increase in veggies and maybe beans too? ‘Nuff said.

·         Your kids, upon seeing something they want you to buy in the grocery store, make a “pitch" to you based on the foods carb:protein ratio. Now this one HAS happened to me. It was ice cream. Kid did a damn good job so I bought it for her…and reviewed it for Bariatric Foodie!

So those are just a few of the signs that…maybe you’re moving in the right direction with the healthfulness of your food. Any others?

- When your refrigerator/freezer is STACKED...but your pantry and cupboards are a wasteland.  Not because you haven't brought grocery but because you are buying less processed and prepackaged foods.

When your dishwasher is full of measuring cups, measuring spoons, small bowls and plates, Magic Bullet parts...

And the food scale and Magic Bullet are in prominent places on your counter.  And the jugs of protein powder are taking over your kitchen.

Or in my case because you can't have a coffee maker on your counter because there are too many bottles of sugar-free syrup!!!

When you want to give friends and strangers your Bariatric Doctor's business card.  This may not be advisable but when I see people loading up their plate at a buffet or overweighter's loading up their grocery cart with junk, I so wish I had a card to hand out.

-- When you rearrange your kitchen cabinets so that all your "protein shake" supplies are closer to the blender/bullet on the counter to save time and make the process more efficient.

-- When you have so many SF syrup bottles on your counter people think you are running a coffe shop from your kitchen.

-- When your new "gadget" purchases consist of digital food scales, stick blenders, and a food saver (LOVE that thing btw!!!)
