OT - So my kid wants to be a vegetarian...

Yeah, even though my 10 year old is obese by medical standards, her pediatrician doesn't want me putting her on a "diet" so I pretty much don't try to let my mind go there with her. Just want to make sure she eats a balanced diet.

We talked and we're going to do a 'try it out' week. So I bought some stuff I know she likes. Hummus and pita pockets, some good cheese (not those freaky slices they sell in the wrapper), some almond butter and a few other things. She's going to try it out in her lunches and see how it goes. Then we're going to discuss how a full vegetarian diet might go.

Until then I expect she'll do what she's been doing. Eating the side dishes of the meals I cook. Thankfully I try to put a LOT of nutrition into those sides and I refuse to give them white carbs (although my daughter did get away with "accidentally" buying white bread at the store the other day). But my sides tend to be things like bulgur or quinoa and steamed veggies. So she's probably good doing that.

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions and "food for thought."
