poll re: dumping
Here goes:
1. Do you dump (I'm not gonna try to define dumping for you, other than to say I don't just mean does your tummy get a bit queazy if you eat certain things)?
---> Yes...
2. Have you dumped just a few times, or does it happen often?
---> Happens often
3. Do you dump on sugar? Fat? Something else?
---> I dump on sugar and processed carbs (things with too much flour, usually)
4. Do you know what makes you dump, or are you surprised when it happens?
---> I can usually predict when it'll happen but on occasion I am stymied... like the other night when I dumped on a Zone protein bar (one I eat on a regular basis)
5. Are you able to prevent dumping by watching what you eat?
---> Usually, but no always (i.e., the Zone protein bar surprise)
6. Do you ever eat things that you know might cause dumping? Like, is it too hard to resist that brownie even though you know it will probably make you sick?
---> I do... but it's something I'm consciously focusing on lately
7. If you do dump, how did you find out that you dump? Like, did you accidentally eat something you thought was sugar free only to find out it wasn't, or did you test yourself on purpose?
---> I dumped from the beginning, and not on bad stuff as I was religious with the eating plan for the first 6 months.
8. If you don't dump, do you wish you did? If you do dump, do you wish you didn't? ---> While it's awful while it's happening, I am glad that I dump... because I obviously have not done all the 'head work" yet at this point to maintain my weight loss without the negative repercussions. I am fully aware that I haven't beaten my food demons and that my behaviors point towards an unhealtyh food addiction. I'm addressing it as best I can as I want to be successful longterm with my weight loss... I like being healthy!

2. Have you dumped just a few times, or does it happen often?
only 2-3x
3. Do you dump on sugar? Fat? Something else?
Sugar, sugar alcohols; I don't know about fat
4. Do you know what makes you dump, or are you surprised when it happens?
I know now, I was surprised when I did though. I'd had a cookie before and thought one cookie would cause dumping if I had it (didn't test on purpose); I was wrong - one cookie didn't cause it but more than 2 will!!
5. Are you able to prevent dumping by watching what you eat?
yes
6. Do you ever eat things that you know might cause dumping? Like, is it too hard to resist that brownie even though you know it will probably make you sick?
Nope

I'd had a cookie in SF pudding and it never occurred to me the cookie wasn't SF. When it did occur to me, and I didn't dump, I thought I wasn't a dumper. So Christmas I just HAD to have a cookie.... 2... try a 3rd and I dumped
8. If you don't dump, do you wish you did? If you do dump, do you wish you didn't?
I wish I dumped more severely or easily. I just feel like someone hooked a supervac to my spine and every drop of energy is gone.

I do not push to find out, but would be ok with being a dumper. I am still only 5 months out and I don't have a sweet tooth. If I were gonna dump it would be carb overload I bet. As of now though I keep that at a low.

1. Yes
2. a few times 3. Have not ever tried refined sugar. Dumped on a HIGH amount of fat (e.g. sausage) early out. I do dump on high-carb fruits/fructose 4. Was surprised at first but now, not shocked. 5. Yes 6. No, don't eat refined sugars. Am sometimes surprised at small changes in amounts causing dumping. (e.g. 1/4 of a honeycrisp apple is fine but 1/2 makes me dump) 7. I first dumped eating something on the advice of an RD (who later is no longer my NUT). I dumped early on a high fat sausage but have since been ok on higher fat things. So kinda mistakes, but primarily on professional instruction that just did NOT work for my body! 8. I'm fine on dumping. It's just another reminder of why I need to stay away from certain things (high fat/high processed sugar combos). However, I would like to add more fruits to my diet, so the dumping limits what I can choose or how much I can eat.

1. Yup!
2. Only twice on sugar and three times on fat in my year and a half and all within the first few months of real food.
3. Both sugar and fat do it to me.
4. Yes, anything over 9 grams of sugar and anything over 9-10 grams of fat.
5. I watch everything to make SURE I won't dump. Sugar is worse than fat for the severe pain, cramping, shaking, sweating, "I'm dying" feeling. With fat, I do get the sweating, severe nausia and pain, but thank goodness I haven't thrown up from it.
6. I do NOT eat real sugar at all. I only eat SF things because I'm that scared to dump again. I even have a difficult time thinking about eating fruit, although I do add a tbs of pineapple to my yogurt and cottage cheese. Have yet to try banana (scared to!).
7. Totally by accident when I mistakenly put low sugar jam (about 12 grams of sugar) into my PB & J protein shake. Oh, was going to DIE! And on the fat, I just over did it on a snack and that put me out for the next two hours.
8. I'm SO HAPPY I DUMP! It's just one more thing that keeps me in check.

yes
2. Have you dumped just a few times, or does it happen often?
somewhere in between (i guess some would call it often). less than once a week but probably more than once a month
3. Do you dump on sugar? Fat? Something else?
sugar
4. Do you know what makes you dump, or are you surprised when it happens?
i usually know, but once in awhile something will stump me. like i'll have 2 cookies one day and be fine, then have half of one a few days later and dump. sometimes it happens and i'm not sure what i ate that would cause it, so i may be dumping from something else too.
5. Are you able to prevent dumping by watching what you eat?
see above
6. Do you ever eat things that you know might cause dumping? Like, is it too hard to resist that brownie even though you know it will probably make you sick?
yes, usually at parties/holidays. my worst dump was on christmas day when i had a couple cookies and a little bit of the cheesecake i made.
7. If you do dump, how did you find out that you dump? Like, did you accidentally eat something you thought was sugar free only to find out it wasn't, or did you test yourself on purpose?
i don't remember the first time i dumped... it wasn't a test on purpose, but i probably just wanted something and it happened
8. If you don't dump, do you wish you did? If you do dump, do you wish you didn't?
i'm neutral to it, some days it helps control me, some days i wish i could have more and not worry about it
yes

I haven't dumped (yet), but I haven't pushed it either. I'm still eating almost all low-fat protein, with some complex carbs. I'm 18 days post-op

1. Do you dump (I'm not gonna try to define dumping for you, other than to say I don't just mean does your tummy get a bit queazy if you eat certain things)?
Yes
2. Have you dumped just a few times, or does it happen often?
Three times
3. Do you dump on sugar? Fat? Something else?
Sugar alcohol, fat, and high carbs. I have not tried anything over 8g of sugar to see if I dump on sugar. Since the other things make me dump or really ill, I don't want to test it with actual sugar.
4. Do you know what makes you dump, or are you surprised when it happens?
I was surprised the first time, because I ate some sugar free candy thinking that sugar free was okay. I was never told about sugar alcohols. Now I know.
5. Are you able to prevent dumping by watching what you eat?
Yes. I haven't had a dumping episode in about 5 months.
6. Do you ever eat things that you know might cause dumping? Like, is it too hard to resist that brownie even though you know it will probably make you sick?
No. It's hard, but I just go back to remembering on how sick I felt, like I was dying. It literally had me down the whole day. Not going to do that again.

8. If you don't dump, do you wish you did? If you do dump, do you wish you didn't?
I am glad that I do. It's like having my own "food police". It also has helped me have more will power and control when I get tempted.
Yes
