Rough Recovery
So I am 2 weeks post op from my gastric bypass. I have lost 25lbs. But I am having a terrible time.
First of all, one of my big incisions on the lower left side has a fairly large seroma and it is quite painful. I went to the doctor today and was instructed no more exercising, just to relax because exercising is aggravating it. If it doesn't clear up soon they may have to drain it. When I lay down it stands away from my stomach. Not so fun. I had to be prescribed more oxycodone for it. Amazing.
The real trouble is they think I may have a stricture or that I am healing too quickly since I am only 25. I have been placed back onto only liquids. I was on soft foods like yogurt and what not but since Sunday night I have not been able to keep it down. I am having a hard time swallowing water. Water has been coming back up as well. But now it's just mostly a sip of water hurts. Like a lot of pressure in my chest. So on Friday I have to go to the GI lab and get my stomach scoped. So basically, I can't do anything until after that. No exercising. Nothing but liquids and I am in a lot of pain.
Everyone at my doctors office has assured me that this is all common and that in a few weeks I will be a okay but I am just so upset. I am very emotional which the nurse assured me is normal too. That losing weight is making me more hormonal so crying is normal. I am just so tired of being in pain. And I am so thirsty but I can't really drink a lot at once to quench my thirst.
Just a rough couple of days. Anyone else have these issues?

(HUGS) it is hard. Been there ..done that.. and cried...
Even cried last week after homemade tomato soup wanted to kill me (felt that way..) So... almost 4 years out, and now I am on liquid and soft foods... again... nice....(NOT)...
It will get better. Try to take small sips. And try differen****er or other liquid temperature.
I.e. My pouch hates ice cold. Warm or very warm is the best. And almost from the day 1 - I could not drink plain water. Still really can't. maybe a sip of 2. But I can drink 20 oz of flavored room temperature water in 5 min... so it is not the capacity of the pouch but what it likes and not like. Nasty little bugger.. no?
Hot or warm decaff tea (green tea for me) was the best for the pouch. Not sweet, just enough flavor. many people use crystal light. Some - need it to be ice cold...
My friend - her pouch can't stand any heat... unless it is soup.. another weird bugger.. no?
Staying hydrated is your primary goal. And hopefully on Friday they will find out what is going on and will fix it, or gave you pills for that.
Good luck.

Other then recovering from an open surgery my recovery went pretty smooth. I am sorry you are going through this. Try to look at the big picture and where you will be this time next year. It is true, time really does fly, it just doesn't feel that way at the time.
It will get better, I promise.

I did go through this. My body was trying so hard to heal that it rushed too much fluid to my stoma and basically closed it up. It wasn't a stricture but the symptoms were the same. They also told me it was partially due to being young, although I'm a bit older than you. I had to have the scope and my Dr stretched me out with the balloon and I had to stay on liquids for 5 weeks, but now I'm 4.5 months out and doing fine. I have no issues with any food and feel much better. Hang in there, you'll feel better soon, but if you have symptoms of dehydration call the Dr back and tell them. Everything feels worse when you are dehydrated.
I understand what you mean about being so thirsty but unable to drink a lot at once to quench your thirst. I'm going through that right now. I went to the ER today to make sure I wasn't dehydrated. The bloodwork came back good, and while I was waiting for it they gave me 1000ml of IV fluids. My mouth is just so dry all the time, and I feel like crap. I hope to God that it isn't like this forever. I've lost weight but I'm feeling like such crap that I just don't care at this point, I just want to feel better.
Hang in there...

Hang in there kiddo! I had tons of issues as well...in hospital for 5 days...could not keep ANYTHING down...not even a sip of water....that has gotten better...I can not do ice cold fluids...hot or warm are good....sugar free wylers or crystal light is good for me...I have to make sure that I do not swallow air when I am drinking anything (No Straws)....I am still having trouble with food but cottage cheese, Stiggis yogurt (from Whole Foods). I had to have the scope as well, and they decided that I am just a slower than normal in the healing spectrum. make sure also that you are taking your time to "eat/drink" too fast, and up everything comes....it does get better....
