i didn't know that about chows.

growing up our dogs always seemed to be the opposite of what their breed was supposed to be like, we had the beagle that was terrified of any loud noises, the german shepherd that was the friendliest dog ever, would probably scare an intruder running up to them but really he'd just want to say hi. and 2 cuddly chihuahuas that have never snapped at anyone including my sister's 3 yr-old future step-daughter who carries them in ways that scare me lol

Yes, Chows are extremely protective of their owners.  We had them when I was growing up.  It is such a strong breed instinct that I have never heard of one that was not protective (some moreso than others, of course). Unfortunately, that same protectiveness can turn into aggressiveness if not properly trained and socialized AND, most especially, when mated with other breeds.  Chow mixes are notorious for somewhat unstable temperaments.

I read trashy romances, cozy mysteries and watch On Demand.   I've also discovered that I fall asleep whenever I try to watch Extreme Couponing AllStars On Demand.   If my brain is going overtime, I might take an ativan.   If my husband is also awake, I might try an old movie or an episode of Law & Order.  If I'm mad at him for some silly reason, I turn on Bridezillas.  He immediately gets up and goes to sleep in the other room.  He never wakes up, and can't remember why he left the room in the middle of the night.

My life amuses me.

You already hit my go-to activities for insomnia - DVR, TV and Solitaire. I surf the net, too. I can't read books when I have insomnia as I feel like I am just enough out of it i can't process what I read. And sometimes it's a struggle not to eat. Luckily I have resisted since surgery, but some nights are harder than others!

I love finding a series on Netflix that I really like but didn'****ch in first run. And I only get to watch it when I can't sleep. Then it's almost like a treat when you have insomnia because you get to watch the next episode!
