Hi Lora, so sorry you are having insomnia... it sucks.  When I can't sleep my two choices are Netflix and solitare.  I find that if I am comfortable and I play one of the Solitare games on Facebook, I can sometimes get myself to physically relax and maybe even get sleepy.  If not, at least my hands are busy and I am less likely to dream of food!  For some reason I like the solitare games i found on facebook, probably since they are free!

Hang in there and hopefully you will be sleeping well again soon!

I like to take a hot bubble bath. I buy all kinds of bath bombs or other things I can put in the bath water to help me relax.

Have you ever tried any of the Lush bath products? They are pricey, so I only use them for special "treats", but they have some bath bombs and bubble bars (and some solid shampoos) that I really like.

Easy crafts.  Sometimes I crochet.

Listening to books on CD.

Coloring.  I know, kinda silly.... but relaxing.

Easy housework.  Like folding laundry.

Oooh... audiobooks... had not thought of that (and I actually have a couple of those... and even two free podcasts that I just thought of... on my iPod)!

The laundry idea is good, too.  I have a whole pile of dark (solid and printed) socks that need matched up and put away.

it depends on how my PTSD shows itself.. if it is temper / rage then there isn't much I do (well, honestly - there are some safe temper tantrums I throw now, but not advertising on the 'Net lol ).
if it is depression coloring, journaling, indoor photography (still trying to catch drops of water / milk / food coloring splashing down).
if it is just busy thoughts then a hot shower, heavy, warm blankets (I even turn down the AC in summer) and just time with my dog. I am living proof on the calming effects of hugging / petting a dog.

I hope things settle for you soon so you can get some rest

Thanks.  Last night, although I did not get to sleep until almost 3, I slept almost 6 hours, so that was double the previous 2 nights.  Hopefully, I  can  nap this afternoon and then get a decent amount again tonight.

Mine is a combo of anxiety and depression (and, ironically, the dr doesn't want to change antidepressants until things are not as acute as they currently are, for fear of having things get worse as we make the switch).

watch nick at night lol and play stupid games on my phone, nothing like playing words with friends against yourself haha. last night i also discovered it's a good time to go on online dating sites. i got a ton of messages and ended up talking to a fellow insomnia****il about 5:30. i also annoy the hell out of my cat, who seems to have "caught" the insomnia as she has decided the past few nights that 2-3am is the best time to run around the room, jumping on and off the bed.

I have two dogs. The Scottie, who is almost 6, just curls up either on the couch or in bed (depending on what room I am in) and sleeps without me. The Chow, who is about 18 months old, seems to sense that something wrong, and -- because of the breed's intense guarding instinct -- lays right alongside the bed or lies at the foot of the chair or LaZBoy. (When I am sleeping he sleeps in other strategic "guarding" spots like at the top or bottom of the stairs that lead to the bedrooms.)
