and the insomnia continues....

I recently started taking trazadone for sleep and in fact felt hung over from it almost all day yesterday.  But then I took it last night , about two hours ago, and I am still awake.  I got kind of dizzy for a little while, but then that passed and here I am, still awake.  I am experiencing a lot of inconsistency in how my sleep meds work lately and it's driving me crazy.  I'm wondering if I might be having similar issues with my antidepressants, although it's harder to tell because you don't get an immediate response to those like you do with sleep meds.  It's getting very, very frustrating, though.

Still having trouble sleeping myself... slept fine for 3 hours, but now awake again even though I am exhausted... so I know how frustrating it is to be so tired but unable to sleep.  I'm not thinking especially clearly ATM, but it does sound as if all the changes in your meds may have your system messed up.  I hope you can get it resolved soon.

I'm sorry you're still having problems.  Did your therapy go well Wed?

My therapist and I are thinking my issues with the sleep meds seeming to work sometimes and not others may have to do with the DID.  Like different parts responding differently to the meds.

interesting idea about the role of DID in the situation. Not something I have ever had any experience with.  My session went ok.  One of her observations during her 25 years of counseling has been that sometimes when the level of distress is so high, and the brain is so focused on dealing with whatever aspect of the PTSD, it is able to "trump" the sleep meds.  if that does, indeed, happen to those of us without DID, I can see how it would be possible that the brain could also "trump" the meds for different parts...

She suggested that I ask about a script for a very low dose of Risperdal (just to be taken PRN) along with the Lunesta. Since my PCP handles my meds, I am not sure what he will say, but I think she is correct that it would probably temper the emotional distress that is keeping me up.  She also indicated that taking the Ativan after I wake back up (like tonight) might help me get back to sleep.  (Not so far... I took only one but am about to take another since the script says 1 or 2.)

That's interesting about PTSD trumping the sleep meds, and certainly could be an issue for me as well.

Hopefully your PCP will be agreeable to the Risperdal.  Maybe he or she can speak with your therapist if necessary to convince him or her to prescribe it.

I'm up too.  Mostly I think from the 3 days of high dose steroids I am on.  Now that the cough is gone so I can sleep, the steroids have me wide awake.  LOL

Steroids can do that.

On the plus side, the dose is high enough to kill my appetite.  But look out when she lowers it to wean me off. Munchie city.

Sounds like you have it way worse than I do.  I'm freaking miserable.  This is by far the worst night of insomnia I've had, and I don't know what else to try right now.  Granted my Dr. only recently put me on a small dose of ambien at 5mg, none of the normal things help either (hot shower, hot tea, etc.).  My Dr. said it is just the excess energy from weight loss, but adding in some more walking and housework isnt working (I'm 4 weeks post op). Best of luck to you.

I swear I don't think I have the energy to add in more walking or housework.  I barely have the energy to do the stuff I have to do now.
