Chuck E. Cheese...leading the charge toward more conscious eating?

Firstly, I should say I have spent the better part of my parenting life hating CEC. But conversely I am liking restaurants that help people make better decisions, not because of legislation...but because that's what they as a company have decided to do.

So now I'm all effed up.

Went to CEC tonight for a school fundraiser. Here is what I saw:

-Caloric ranges on ALL the foods on their display menu
-They now do grilled chicken to go with the salad bar???
-Alternatives to greasy fried sides (carrott sticks, apple slices, etc.)
-Not one but FOUR sugar-free drink choices

So...all of this boils down to this.

Olive Garden. You're getting shown up by a kiddie restaurant with a frickin rat as a mascot! Step your game up!!!

I thought my time there as over too! I mean...I GLADLY shell out close to four times the cost of a CEC bday party to go to Dave & Busters. Damn school fundraisers...but for those with young kids I guess it's comforting to know there are good options...

It's not just CEC.  Most restaurants are posting their calories on their menu.  And many have a gluten free menu, which I just love.  Went to Claim Jumper and was able to eat with no problem.  I know Denny's puts calories and other info on the menu.  Not that I would brag if I were them.  My daughter went to Jack in the Box and they have the calories on there, too.  She wasn't happy to see how many calories she was eating.  She liked it better when she was in denial.
BTW, I swore after my kids grew up I would never darken CEC's door again.  I forgot about the grandkids.  That place is my version of Hell with all the kids running around wild.

OMG, Tazz! I so hear you! I love kids and in particular my grandchildren, but I can't handle the screaming squealing over the top energy any more.

I used to live in Fairbanks, AK and the CEC didn't last very long for some reason. Maybe the rat froze to death. But a Chinese restaurant moved in and at the time I moved from there, they still had the CEC carpet on the floor. And believe me, it needed to be replaced.

new york, and i'm sure some other cities/states too, require most resturants to post calories (it seems its just the chains) so it's probably easier for them to just print off one then all different ones depending on the area.

In some MD counties that is the law also and many restaurants keep it ONLY to those counties, so i still give CEC props for displaying it when others clearly...don't.
