Any thoughts on Biotin???
Doses that high can cause excess facial hair growth. Might not be a problem for you since, based on your profile name, you might be a man... but wanted to warn others because the facial hair growth is permanent... so they should keep an eye out for it!

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I started Biotin a few months ago and I have lost some hair but not a lot. I did notice that when I stopped taking it for a little while, my hair started falling out more. When I started it back up the hair loss slowed down. I don't know if this is the Biotin or just the way it is. I am only taking 1000 mg a day. For those of you taking it, how much are you taking? I am also taking Zinc too which I read can help and I use Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and conditioner.
1000 units of biotin is a pretty typical daily dose. Many people also take double that. If you take a higher dose (especially above 2500), be on the lookout for signs of the growth of additional facial hair because once the hair grows, it is permanent!
Contrary to what another poster said, you cannot PREVENT hair loss just be getting enough protein and vitamins. The hair loss is not just a result of nutritional issues and nutrition cannot prevent it from happening. It is called telogen effluvium (you can Google it). Some people will simply lose more hair than others even if they all get enough protein and vitamins. NOT getting enough protein and vitamins can cause you to lose MORE hair, however.
In addition to folic acid and biotin, make sure you are getting enough zinc because zinc deficiency can contribute to hair loss as well (and you need the zinc for healing, anyway).
Even if you lose a lot of hair (I lost fully half of my hair despite starting extra vitamins 2 months before surgery and getting my protein in from the first week post-op thanks to a G-tube), your face will be getting smaller, which makes your hair look fuller, so many people will not notice your hair at all, and the hair WILL grow back. It just takes a while.
