Being able to filter advice you get from the internet (or anywhere else) is an important skill to have, and I don't think everyone has it.  There was a time when I didn't know how to do that.  I'll tell you how I learned it.  I work as a freelance writer (yes, I proofread my work before I submit it so I do not have as many typos as you'll find in my posts!) and I got a job working for one company that required writers to always cite their sources and they had to be "reputable sources."  Not just someone's blog, unless that person was a doctor.  Not something someone posted on an internet forum.  But I also learned that if I found something on a blog or a forum that was interesting, I could try to trace it back to its source.  That's why I'm always saying now to ask where info is coming from.  Is it just what someone (your doctor, me or anyone else) thinks, or do they have data to prove it?

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.
