I know Gym memberships can be expensive I just renewed my membership with my two daughters at the YMCA for $693 dollars. I am sure I could probably find something cheaper but the Y is right around the corner from my house and my one daughter loves to swim...So this year I was lucky to have the money. I get a month free because I pay in full. But this year I am going to put a little bit away each month so next Feb I will be able to afford it...

I hear ya, Kelly. We live in a beautiful subdivision with some hilsl but nothing really bad, it's perfect for walking or jogging. But I have developed asthma and since we live on an island with an active volcano, we frequently get vog (nature's smog) which makes it really hard to breath. So I do my exercising indoors. My sweetie bought me a lovely eliptical for Christmas and I love it! But for the moment, I'm enjoying sitting here, resting.

Just found out we are getting a scholarship to the ymca. It will only be $18 per month. I can't wait to get back in the gym.

Great link Kelly!

I doubt it is a secret that I am a big fan of the gym and spend more than a couple hours a week at one.  While doing anything is better than doing nothing I think a gym offers a few benefits you just don't get at home.

The variety of equipment allows you to change up and easily increase your workouts.  Remember your body will become more efficient at doing something the more you do it.  If you do elliptical everyday at the same resistance for the same period you will eventually decrease the effectiveness of your time doing the activity.  I have a freind who can run circles around me in a Half Marathon or longer but I can hold my own on a 10 or 5K distance as they only run 12+ miles at the same pace.

Pros! The gym have people to show you how to correctly do something.  To get the full benefit of an activity you need to be doing it correctly which most of us aren't going to do on our own to start.

Classes!  Find something you like and with the variety of classes most gyms offer I am sure there is something for everyone.  Zumba, yoga, body sculpt, boot camp or spin if you enjoy it you will continue to do it!  I remember when one of my friends from here talked about how she hated the gym and had no time, well now she is a Zumba addict!

A roof , heater or AC!  this may sound stupid but you are indoors so you can exercise or run when it rains, when it snows or even when it is 120 degrees outside!

If your cheap you will simply use it because you are paying for it.

You may discover that you can do something you never dreamed possible or you enjoy something you never considered.

One of the benefits about these new lives we have been giving is the chance to do and try things we were never able to before.
