One of the FIRST questions you should ask yourself when you stall

“Have I been moving?"

If no, you may have your answer. If yes:

“Have I been moving the same way for a while?"

If yes, it might be time to change up your routine or intensify what you are doing. If no, and you are changing up your routine, you may simply be in a normal stall. Keep doing what you’re doing!

I post this because when we stall, we automatically think of our food intake. Am I eating too much? Too little? Enough protein?

I cannot tell you how many times I have asked a person who is stalling about their activity and they give me the “deer caught in headlights" look.

While losing SOME weight is damn near guaranteed after gastric bypass, nutrition AND exercise (or at least increased physical activity) work together to produce long-term results.

So if you aren’t moving and you are stalling, you might start by changing your outlook on activity.

So true!  It is key not only that we move, but that we continually change it up. Our bodies EASILY adapt to new things and they can quickly become the new "norm" and no longer provide the same benefit.

I can tell you that building a significant amount of muscle makes maintenance so much easier.

Love your posts!!

To be honest, I haven't really moved much, and my job is very busy.

I do take a quick 20 min walk during midday breaks at work, and then I do alot of mystery shopping, which involves quite a bit of walking around the stores..

but when I get home I am just so exhausted from working soooo much ....and need to find some time..

any suggestions?

Well, unfortunately the "I'm tired" factor is hard to get over. But here's the deal. When you start exercising and your body burns fat continuously as a result...you get these really massive bursts of energy. During my "gym zealot/fat ninja" phase I rarely slept more than 4 hours a night. Not because of insomnia. I simply was never tired.

I still don't get very tired unless I STOP working out. Then my energy tanks. The human body sort of gets addicted to the biochemical reactions of exercise and when you crash, you crash hard. So that is to say after a while your body begins to CRAVE exercise. This all sounds like a load of BS I know...but I am a living testament that it is true.

I would suggest doing something simple. Got an Xbox? Buy Zumba, Just Dance 3 or Dance Central and do some songs you like (I believe each is available for the Wii as well). Each is only about 3-4 minutes and you can start by just doing one a day and increasing it. It's so fun you don't really think of it as exercise.

I also have found if I just keep doing some exercise I stay in in range.
. I don't really have to increase it-I just have to do it.

I am 8 1/2 months out and have been stalled for going on  2 months, and asked myself recently "Have I been moving?"
The answer was no.
Last week I began my new and first workout routine, everyother day doing my C25K (couch to 5 K) program.  I told myself the day of my surgery that my goal, as of April 1st of this year, I would be able to complete a 5K, not walking.  So here it goes.  I hope by getting off my butt I accomplish 2 things, reaching my goal weight 30 more lbs. and running a 5K.  I'll let ya know how it works out!

I have been looking at zumba for Wii for a while.  Do you like it?  I am trying to get this last 35 or so pounds off and will try your suggestion to vary my exercise.
Thanks so much
