The Role of Failure in Success
Love your post. I was brought up hearing "never judge another person, you never know what they are going through" and "there but by the grace of God go I " and I teach my little girl that very thing.... (in Georgia, as I'm sure you know, our Mama's know all these little pearls of wisdom) I also wanted to say that I have discovered "Bariactric Foodie" and I am absolutely in love with it! You have a true calling and are obviously on the right road!
Well written! I aspire to have the clarity of thought and talent to put words together as well as you. Such a talent!
To expand on the topic just a bit further, I'm not so sure it's exactly failure vs. success, but perhaps it's more akin to all or nothing thinking (which I guess really when boiled down to bare verbiage is failure/success).
How many times in our collective histories have we gone "all in" but at the first deviation from our "all-in" mentality, have gone "all out". We chant: I will be perfect today on my diet, my exercise, my kindness, my cursing, my (name your habit here). Then at the first misstep or deviation from our perfect plan, we give up, admit defeat and denegrate ourselves for less than perfection. And I'm not so sure it's a newbie v. veteran thing, I think it might be age related too. You know, there's definitely a wisdom that comes with all the gray hair I fantastically sport -- a certain realization that black and white and their accompanying lines of distinction can and should be blurred. Gray can be a mighty fine color too! Age gives us the experience, the humbleness, and the calmness that youth shouldn't necessarily own.
Regardless, I say -- embrace imperfection, revel in the gray, and most imporantly enjoy (and learn) from the journey.
