Has anyone bought new clothes yet?
I have bought new clothes...not alot, just some basics to get me through. I didn't have a big backlog of clothes to draw on, no smaller sizes in my closet at all.
I ordered 4 skirts right after my surgery, two size 20 and two size 18 ( I was wearing 22 at the time of my surgery). I was able to keep wearing my old tops for a while, then they started to look ridiculous on me. I shopped the sales at Macy's, used a coupon and have been quite happy that I did. It really helps to see the difference when you are wearing tops that fit! That's the other thing I really needed right away, new bras!!!
My old bras have lots of open space in them, nothing looks worse under a top that fits than a baggy bra!!
I have since ordered more skirts, this time in size 16 and size 14. I can wear the 16's, and the 14s will probably fit next month. The skirts were basic twill skirts from LL Bean, one khaki and one black....they go with anything else I want to put on.
It does feel fabulous shopping in the regular size department....and the clothes are much less expensive. I found 5 tops, two sweaters and two new bras for $150. These are all items that I can take to the consignment shop when I am through with them or donate them to one of the local shelters. I am really spooked by the whole bedbug phenomenon and don't even want to go in a thrift store, much less bring something home from one.
I would suggest shopping for one new outfit that fits, it really makes a difference in how you will feel about yourself. Nothing helps a week with no weightloss go by easier than to see yourself getting smaller, if you are still wearing your heaviest weight clothes.....you won't be able to see it!
Good luck,
Sara in Maui, where I don't have to worry about buying a smaller winter coat!!

I have also become a Goodwill shopper and have already donated some of the items back that are now too small. In addition to consignment stores, you should also check out some of local charities in your area who might also have resale stores. We have a great one in Houston called Blue Birds. The money that they make goes to the benefit of the Blue Bird Circle clinic for Pediatric Neurology at Texas Children's Hospital and other philanthropic activities of the Circle. I find some amazing things there and know that the money goes to a great cause.
I went from an 18 to a 6 in 7 months! So when I really did need new sizes I would go and buy 2 pairs of pants in my size, where them every other day and within a few weeks they no longer fit anyway.
Ross is a great place to go. They have great stuff CHEAP! Shirts are easier cause you can get away with those longer then pants. But just don't invest more then about $20 in a size until you get close to goal cause trust me you won't need them long!~ I just gave away cloths I only wore about 3 times!

I have bought clothes, but ONLY sale things - for example, I started my journey at a size 38, and am now a size 26/28 - I had to buy a few pairs of pants for work, but refused to spend more than 10-15 dollars on each pair. Fortunately, online shopping sales can be awesome. I did have to buy new underwear and bras this weekend. My old T-shirts have doubled as pajamas!!
Aside from that, Goodwill and Consignment shops will be your friend!

I'm buying most of my clothes at Savers now. It's the Big Brothers'/ Big Sisters' thrift store. They really display things so nicely and make the closthes easy to fine. Yesterday, between there and a local animal shelter thrift store, I purchased 6 pair of pants, 1 leather purse, and a sweater all for under $40. A year ago I was wearing a size 26-28 pants. Yesterday, bought two pair of 18 pants and the others were size 16. I started out at 280, lost 40 pounds before surgery, and have lost about 48-49 pounds isnce surgery in August.
It's funny, we got our year end credit card summary statement in the mail the other day and I nearly died when I saw the "clothing" category. 3 times this year I was sure that I had lost all I was going to lose and got an entire wardrobe. Before that I just let my clothes stay baggy and kept buying 1 new pair of jeans. But I now have an entire wardrobe in an 18, a 14 and now a 10!
My suggestion is Ebay, Goodwill or even looking at clothing swaps in your area...

Oh yes I have!!!! Some from consignment and I am loving Old Navy. But I have a rule --- no more than $20 for top or bottom with an exception.... Bras (nothing looks worse than a ill-fitted bra). Also, I ALWAYS have 1 pair of jeans that fit (have to have something nice for nights out). On my 2nd pair since surgery and about 5th pair since my WLS journey began.
